2024 MANIKATO STAKES SPEED MAP

Plenty of early speed from Recommendation and Estriella, with Growing Empire, Veight, Kimochi and Chain Of Lightning taking close positions.
Johnny Rocker, Climbing Star & Coleman settle midfield.
Southport Tycoon, Caballus, Hayasugi & I Wish I Win out the back.

MANIKATO STAKES KEY RUNNERS

1. I Wish I Win – Is the best sprinter in Australia. Last 10 starts have been at G1 level for 3 wins and 6 placings, most of them within 0.5L of the winner. Ultra consistent. The Moonee Valley track doesn’t suit his style but if there is some rain and it is a swoopers track, he is a big chance.

2. Veight – Unbeaten fresh up, has won at the track and ran 2nd in quick Cranbourne trial recently.

4. Southport Tycoon – Wore blinkers first time when 3rd in quick Cranbourne trial recently, +8.4 the quickest last 600m of 192 triallers on the day. Wears blinkers first time in a race here and is flying. Doesn’t appear to like it wet.

5. Johnny Rocker – Ran a clear career best this track/distance when 2nd beaten a neck to Imperatriz in the G1 William Reid Stakes. Blinkers first time here, and query on the wet.

7. Chain Of Lighting – Plain first up. 1200m suits better. Wants wet.

8. Estriella – Boom mare looking to prove herself at G1 level here. Bolted in winning 3 in a row last prep including the $1M Inglis Sprint before 5th in the G1 Robert Sangster. Resumed with a good Cranbourne 800m trial win under a hold by 4L in +1.2 time. Luckless first up when caught 3 wide no cover. In the mix.

9. Kimochi – Strong win first up after racing wide no cover throughout. Different grade here.

11. Coleman – OK first up in the Moir. Has ability but needs to lift here.

12. Growing Empire – Boom 3yo who has won 4yo. Big step up in grade here and times mixed.

13. Hayasugi – Won the Blue Diamond Preview, Blue Diamond Prelude and Blu Diamond Stakes last prep, then forget went around in the Golden Slipper. Looked good in recent Cranbourne 800m 26 Aug trial when 3rd under a hold. Finished strongly for 2nd in the Moir first up.

Manikato Stakes Tips – Expert Betting Advice for Moonee Valley’s Group 1 Sprint

The Manikato Stakes is one of the feature sprint races of the spring, held under lights at Moonee Valley on the eve of the Cox Plate. Run over 1200 metres at Group 1 level under weight-for-age conditions, this race consistently attracts a high-class field of Australia’s fastest gallopers—and offers sharp opportunities for value if you have the right form analysis on your side.

Our expert Manikato Stakes tips are crafted with a clear focus: to help punters make confident, well-informed decisions backed by data and professional insight. Whether you’re chasing a standout performer or looking for a market edge, our race preview gives you the tools you need to bet with purpose.

Moonee Valley is a unique racetrack. Its tight, turning layout and short home straight mean the race is often won and lost in the first few furlongs. Barrier draws, early speed, and racing position become critical—particularly under lights where tempo can play an even more decisive role. The Betfair Hub also has tips on other races at Moonee Valley like the Cox Plate. Check out our Cox Plate expert tips page.

When building our Manikato tips, we closely analyse:

  • Recent track and distance form at Moonee Valley
  • Tactical speed and early position
  • Track conditions and how the surface has been playing
  • Barrier advantage or disadvantage
  • Trainer and jockey combinations with strong Valley records

Success in the Manikato often comes down to which runner can balance high cruising speed with a powerful turn-of-foot on a track that doesn’t give backrunners much time to wind up.

Every year, the Manikato Stakes features a mix of seasoned Group 1 campaigners and rising stars. Some may be coming off high-pressure runs in races like The Everest, while others may be peaking second or third-up into the prep. Understanding these profiles is central to shaping reliable racing tips and predictions.

Our analysts focus on:

  • Horses suited by the 1200m at The Valley
  • Improvement shown between runs or during trials
  • Historical performances in similar high-pressure races
  • How the race is likely to be run based on speed maps

With strong field depth and often tight markets, spotting key angles others may overlook is what separates guesswork from confident tipping.

Identifying your best bets for the Manikato Stakes isn’t just about siding with the favourite. It’s about matching form to the race scenario and track conditions. Our team delivers a clear standout selection based on value, recent performance, and tactical setup.

We consider factors such as:

  • Fitness levels and peak timing
  • Market movement and stable confidence
  • Race-day conditions and how the track is playing
