LAY: 4. Who Told Shorty (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $6.00)

Admittedly, Who Told Shorty is racing well and scored a much deserving win last week; however, this is an extremely steep rise in class. He was racing in masters company and now rises to a fifth-grade race containing the likes of Garrison and Pursuer who are both capable of running 35 seconds. It’s his first look over this start and to make matters worse he has drawn the squeeze box. His only way of winning this race is leading and even then he could be caught late. He has to be faultless here and his price does not reflect that at all.

BACK: 3. Royal Warren (WIN) for 3 unit(s) (Rated at: $1.80)

Royal Warren lines up incredibly well in the penultimate event and will take a power of beating. He has really hit his straps in recent weeks winning twice and placing twice in his past five outings. He ran second to the best straight track dog in the state on Sunday at Capalaba which is the perfect pipe opener for tonight’s race. He is a tad slow early which means he needs room to operate and he should get that here with Gone Walkabout a noted middle to wide runner over this track and trip. Expect Royal Warren to burst through the pack and at worst sit outside Big Easy Al before blowing him away down the back.

RACE 1 | SELECTIONS

8. Cheers For Bella
7. Typhoon Nev
1. Gravitate
4. Shifty Breeze

Betting Strategy

LAY: 1. Gravitate (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $4.00)

Gravitate returns off a three week break and appears overvalued in betting. He stepped up to the 520m at Ipswich two starts ago and won by four lengths in 30.54. He was then sent around second favourite in a much weaker race than he faces tonight where he finished third. Box one might appear a blessing at first look; however, on further inspection there’s speed expected from the likes of Shifty Breeze and Typhoon Nev. The pair should cross him early which will leave him in a vulnerable position as he is yet to prove himself off the arm.

RACE 2 | SELECTIONS

6. Portman’s Lass
2. Amendola
1. Courageous Carol
4. Walk Me Daddy

Betting Strategy

BACK: 6. Portman’s Lass (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $2.00)

Portman’s Lass has recently stepped out to the staying trip and was building a nice record at Albion Park before heading down to Wentworth Park and finishing last in consecutive races. It could pay to be forgiving of those efforts as she raced like a dog disinterested. She returns to her home track here where she’s had five starts over this track and trip for three wins and one minor. Box six and room to move outside will benefit her as she likes to use the track heading into the first corner. Amendola has the speed to hold her out initially; however, Portman’s Lass is blessed with a ripping turn of speed mid race and that’s where I expect her to put this race to bed and hold on from Amendola who will come again and Courageous Carol who’s a dour stayer.

RACE 3 | SELECTIONS

2. Danger Zone
1. Tarawi Moo
5. Obliging Travis
4. Bogie Dominator

Betting Strategy

Danger Zone has been racing in great order since stepping out to the 520m. He is a consistent beginner who can let rip exiting the first turn. Brings the right form to this race and is a deserving favourite.Tawari Moo is relatively unexposed at this track and distance only stepping out on the three occasions for a win and two minors. She is getting better with her racing here and must be respected. Obliging Travis returned from a three month break last start at Capalaba where he finished last behind Valhalla. Has since passed a stewards trial over this track and trip in 30.07. A similar effort would have him more than competitive here. No bet.

RACE 4 | SELECTIONS

3. Izzy No Talk
5. Travis’s Scrub
2. Obliging Hope
8. Jupiter

Betting Strategy

BACK: 3. Izzy No Talk (WIN) for 1 unit(s) (Rated at: $4.00)

Izzy No Talk returned from a one month break last week when finishing fourth behind Hilltop Star. She walked out of the boxes and was subject to a check on the first corner which forced here wide. She was gaining ground on the leading pack before peaking on her effort suggesting this run would top her off. She should improve off that effort and finds a race here with the likes of Travis’s Scrub and Obliging Hope capable of cutting at each other early. She will be finishing off best here and will only need to land close enough to strike.

RACE 5 | SELECTIONS

7. Super Scrub
3. Very Handy
2. Where’s Johnson
4. Villante

Betting Strategy

BACK: 7. Super Scrub (WIN) for 1 unit(s) (Rated at: $4.00)

Super Scrub is starting to get the miles in his legs over this distance now having three consecutive runs in a row. Last week was by far and away his most impressive effort. He didn’t begin all that well but showed brilliant muster to take the lead down the back and was run down late by Very Handy who lobbed close enough. Of course this could happen once again here; however, Very Handy might not land so close this time with Where’s Jonhson in box two more than capable of beginning and forcing him to work. With all this playing out, expect Super Scrub to sail across this field and open up a big margin down the back.

RACE 6 | SELECTIONS

2. Garrison
8. Pursuer
4. Who Told Shorty
1. Kushti Bok

Betting Strategy

LAY: 4. Who Told Shorty (WIN) for 2 unit(s) (Rated at: $6.00)

RACE 7 | SELECTIONS

3. Sanisha
1. Cyndie’s Cyndie
6. I’m Old School
4. Agent Spaghetti

Betting Strategy

LAY: 1. Cyndie’s Cyndie (WIN) for 1 unit(s) (Rated at: $1.50)

Cyndie’s Cyndie has filled our pockets over the last few weeks and I’m hopeful she can do it again in another way. Admittedly, she was breathtaking at her first crack at 600m when spearing straight to the front and clocking ridiculous sections down the back. This will be her distance range in future and I’ve got no doubt she can match the best middle distance dogs in the country. Despite all this, I’m always extremely wary of dogs second up at an extended trip as some can race flat. If she lacks that pep in her step early, box one could be a curse as she’ll get crossed and be forced to run down dogs more seasoned at 600m than her. If she’s ever going to lose over this distance, tonight will be the night and at her price, she’s worth a speck against.

RACE 8 | SELECTIONS

6. Kahlo Hayze
1. Aidan’s Queen
4. Jumping Jive
3. Fancy Gift

Betting Strategy

Some of the state’s most progressive dogs line up in this cracking feature race. Kahlo Hayze is racing with a wing on every paw. She’s won eight of her last nine races with her only defeat coming behind Danger Zone when having no luck in running. Can win from on or off the speed. Aidan’s Queen scored a personal best 30.07 win last week. She is a consistently quick beginner and will look to make her own luck on speed. Jumping Jive has impressed this time in winning five of her six races. She’s armed with top line speed early and will run a ripping race if she can cross Aidan’s Queen.

Expand

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.

RACE 9 | SELECTIONS

4. Samurai Mind
2. Blue Hornet
1. Mr. Springtime
8. Here Wolfe

Betting Strategy

Depleted best eight event with Jay Is Jay on the sidelines, All Natural in Sydney and Cyndie’s Cyndie now racing at 600m. Blue Hornet returns to the Albion Park 520m for the first time since January and finds a race that is quite frankly set up on a platter for him. All the same, punters have been burned too many times and he is extremely hard to trust. Samurai Mind and Mr. Springtime doesn’t have the ability he possesses; however, are absolutely jumping out of their skin at present. Both have really impressed with their consistent box manners and will to win in recent weeks. Kudos to their trainers and they’re racing in career best form deep into their careers. Tough race and one I’ll elect to stay out of.

RACE 10 | SELECTIONS

3. Royal Warren
4. Gone Walkabout
7. More Than Money
2. Big Easy Al

Betting Strategy

BACK: 3. Royal Warren (WIN) for 3 unit(s) (Rated at: $1.80)

Royal Warren lines up incredibly well in the penultimate event and will take a power of beating. He has really hit his straps in recent weeks winning twice and placing twice in his past five outings. RACE 11 | SELECTIONS

1. Lula’s Ruby
3. Midnight Bandit
5. Lederhosen Boy
2. Cool Hand Steve

Betting Strategy

Lula’s Ruby left rivals hanging two starts ago over the 395m at Albion Park scoring by eight lengths in a slick 22.59. Has the speed to lead here and will take a power of catching. If Lula’s Ruby was to fold like a deck chair, Midnight Bandit and Lederhosen Boy are the two dogs who could take advantage of it. They’re both strong at the back end of 520m and will be roaring home. Hard race to assess as I don’t want to be against Lula’s Ruby due to her map favours and unknowns but she is well found in betting.
