FLEMINGTON PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SATURDAY OCTOBER 4TH 2025
RAIL: 9m TRACK: Good 4
Expecting the track to play fairly.
12. She’s An Artist
10. Stoli Bolli
11. Princess Que
7. Persian Spirit
Betting Strategy
An extremely strong BM78 to get us underway, it is looking less likely with every passing start that She’s An Artist will return to her second-start rating that saw her SP $1.30 in Listed grade at the back end of last preparation. She does get a chance to show her wares though from a wide gate with B.Shinn on. No knocks Stoli Bolli, who was blocked at a key stage last start and JMac having had a steer on her suits.
9. One Day At A Time
4. Knightsbridge
1. Eurocanto
12. Streisand
Betting Strategy
LAY: 11. Sabrina (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $9.50)
Sabrina has jumped out very sharply and nothing against her ability but two-year-old races, especially early season 2YO races down the straight, on-speed and especially finding the fence is like gold and this filly is very unlikely to find that from an outside draw.
1. Arcora
3. Officiate
2. Miewa
7. Obvious
Betting Strategy
A compressed market and I would tend to agree, going with Arcora on top, who was actually good through the line in a race shape and distance that didn’t suit last start. Any of seven or eight horses could win without shocking though.
5. Just A Journey
2. Zany Girl
4. Yum
1. Bellazaine
Betting Strategy
Just A Journey brings in some much needed different form to an Edward Manifold Stakes that is crying out for some new blood. She won a BM72 with only small margins through the field last start at Canterbury but even that rating is good enough to be competitive here. She ran the fifth-fastest last 200m of the meeting from the front, indicating there is more in store for her but I just couldn’t get her short enough to bet.
4. On Display
2. Miraval Rose
1. Marble Arch
7. Roll On High
Betting Strategy
On Display was tremendous against the pattern of the meeting first-up at Caulfield (with good market support) then was travelling into the race like the winner last start before getting chopped out and going to the line untested. There is some projection in the current price but I don’t disagree with it either.
6. Rosberg
1. Tentyris
2. Tycoon Star
3. Jimmy Recard
Betting Strategy
A very flat Danehill Stakes, I don’t like the progression of any of these, bar Rosberg who is the only horse without a ceiling and that is enough for me to lean his way, despite not producing a mindblowing figure on debut at The Valley. M.Zahra jumping off Legacy Bound to ride Tentyris is a solid guide.
15. Gilded Water
2. Revelare
6. Berkshire Breeze
12. Mormona
Betting Strategy
BACK: 15. Gilded Water (WIN) for 4 units (Rated at $2.00)
Gilded Water trotted in last start at Caulfield in strong time with an indication that there was plenty more to come. I think he is on a significant upward spiral, more so than his main rival here Revelare and as long as Jamie can find a spot for him early, I think he is the winner before starting in the market in the Melbourne Cup.
1. Antino
4. Via Sistina
7. Aeliana
3. Sir Delius
Betting Strategy
I am surprised there is such a gap in the market between Antino and the other three key runners. He produced a monster figure in Queensland third-up over 2000m last preparation, I thought his run first-up this prep was sensational, making his run wide on a rails in run suited race then he ran clearly the fastest last 400m of the race last start in the Makybe Diva, expect he peaks here.
13. Star Patrol
8. Nadal
1. War Machine
17. La Fracas
Betting Strategy
War Machine draws well, gets B.Shinn and has an obvious amount of ability but I just thought against these horses if 1200m would be on the sharp side. Star Patrol was ridden poorly first-up, not going quickly enough early, he was outdashed from the 400m-200m but was coming again on the line and Nadal is a proper talent.
12. Shadizi
9. Media World
7. Warnie
3. Cafe Millenium
Betting Strategy
An absolute lottery to finish a great days racing. I’ll go with Shadizi, who closed off really well first-up in Sydney.
Want to learn how to lay bet?
When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.
