DUBAI WORLD CUP NIGHT OVERVIEW
TRACK: Good to firm turf/Fast dirt
Please note due to the absence of the purebred Arabian market for what is race 1 on the official card… the betfair race 1 market is for race 2 and so on
RACE 1 | SELECTIONS
3. Double Major
8. Trawlerman
4. Dubai Future
1. Al Nayyir
Betting Strategy
BACK: 3. Double Major (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $4.00)
This horse could just be a genuine top class stayer in time and has mopped up the Prix Royal Oak (G1 3000m) for the last two years. Much of this field is fully exposed with little scope to improve and his consistency might come to the fore here.
BACK: 8. Trawlerman (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.50)
Drawn horrendously the last two seasons and made life difficult for that reason. Much better suited now from gate 3 in a smaller field with little tempo on paper so should be able to dictate in front or from the box seat and reel in any surprise leader/mid race move. Has shown he’s at least competitive at this level and would have a much finer record if not for Kyprios routinely turning him over.
RACE 2 | SELECTIONS
3. Kazu Petrin
2. Fort Payne
11. Peptide Nile
12. Qareeb
Betting Strategy
BACK: 3. Kazu Petrin (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $7.00)
With both American favourites struggling to see out the mile and better suited to 1400m, I’m looking here for value from the two Japanese backmarkers. There looks to be a stack of pace on offer and they’re both drawn wide to avoid major kickback. Kazu Petrin didn’t see out the 2000m last time but has been storming home over 1600, 1700, 1800 distances from the rear of the field. He is much better than he looks on paper.
Peptide Nile is in a similar boat and boasts slightly better form behind Lemon Pop. He’ll sit a little bit handier and hopefully look the winner at some stage.
BACK: 11. Peptide Nile (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $7.00)

BACK: 2. Fort Payne (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $8.00)
Surged from off the pace to win the Burj Nahaar and a repeat of cruising like that in a big field with pace on is good enough to win a weak renewal of this.
BACK: 12. Qareeb (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $11.00)
Chased home the placegetters in the trials for this. Will be better suited by the big field and tempo, offering huge value. His 4th behind Walk Of Stars at G1 level reads massively for this and is far more credentialed than most of the field. He’s as honest as they come.
RACE 3 | SELECTIONS
5. Marbaan
3. Howdeepisyourlove
11. West Acre
9. Believing
Betting Strategy
BACK: 5. Marbaan (WIN & PLACE) for 1 unit (Rated at $6.00)
He’s been running over 1400m but with the speed on MARBAAN should handle 1200m. He toyed with Mysterious Night the last two times and has shown serious cruising speed. If he’s able to stalk the pace he is capable of winning this at a price.
BACK: 3 Howdeepisyourlove (WIN) for 3 units (Rated at $3.00)
We get our first look at global Ka Ying Rising form in the shape of HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE who looks to have travelled over well. Can’t ask for a better jockey on board than JMac who will give him the kitchen sink, only concern is the traditionally faster side in the Al Quoz is the high draws, but Hong Kong put that to bed last year.
RACE 4 | SELECTIONS
3. Dragon
1. Admire Daytona
2. Don In The Mood
9. Queen Azteca
Betting Strategy
BACK: 3. Dragon (WIN & PLACE) for 1 unit (Rated at $7.00)
By the time this race rolls around each year there are inexperienced American and Dubai types who lock horns with Japanese horses who have put in a body of work at the distance already.
DRAGON has an 1800m win and 2000m 2nd, and should ride this tempo with ease. He’s also shown he can suffer the kickback and still finish off.
BACK: 1. Admire Daytona (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $6.00)
Admire Daytona brings some strong form from Japan and could be capable of taking this out having drawn well. Longer trip might be the key to success here and the pedigree says yes
BACK: 2. Don In The Mood (WIN & PLACE) for 1 unit (Rated at $5.00)
Don In The Mood should roll forward from the inside gate and considering Japanese horses have won the last three runnings of this he is great value. Gun jockey booked, and I can envisage the Japanese horde all stacking the race up at their leisure with Don having the most advantageous position of the shortest way home.
RACE 5 | SELECTIONS
11. TUZ
9. Straight No Chaser
12. American Stage
1. Colour Up
Betting Strategy
BACK: 11 Tuz (WIN) for 5 units (Rated at $1.80)
TUZ just makes his own luck and is an utter monster on the front end. The big 17-hand ex-Russian oil slick sprinter should be too tough and defend his crown from the fast finishing Straight No Chaser.
You may get a better price in running if you like the American.
RACE 6 | SELECTIONS
8. Romantic Warrior
11. Liberty Island
7. Nations Pride
1. Facteur Cheval
Betting Strategy
BACK: 11. Liberty Island (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.00)
WITHOUT FAV MARKET
Liberty Island chased home Romantic Warrior and only went down by a length and a half. Replicating that should be enough to run 2nd here and already has a course experience edge over compatriot Soul Rush.
RACE 7 | SELECTIONS
4. Rebel’s Romance
5. Calandagan
8. Shin Emperor
9. Cervinia
Betting Strategy
BACK: 4. Rebel’s Romance (WIN) for 5 units (Rated at $2.50)
One of the best turf horses in training, REBEL’s ROMANCE toyed with the Sheema field last year and may just do so once more. He’s drawn better than last year and will likely look the winner turning for home and have a few lengths break on Calandagan who has proven to be top class since gelding. Personally I’d have the prices swapped based on the experience and proven record of RR vs the up and comer who we won’t know how well he has wintered without a recent run.
BACK: 5. Calandagan (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.50)
Having a saver on Calandagan, as I think he’s the only horse who can beat Rebel’s Romance and I’d rather break even than lose out if he does.
RACE 8 |SELECTIONS
1. Forever Young
9. Ushba Tesoro
10. Walk Of Stars
4. Imperial Emperor
Betting Strategy
BACK: 9. Ushba Tesoro (PLACE) for 3 units
There’s no sane reason to oppose the best horse in the world Forever Young, but his compatriot can provide some place money value by rattling into the numbers late on. USHBA TESORO is a past winner of this, then a place getter, and clearly thrives in the Middle East off yet another strong run last time out in Saudi. I feel the market is disrespecting him and he should be 2nd favourite.
