CURRAGH PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH 2025
TRACK: Soft
Looks like it’ll favour the wings being on the softer side, but which flank is faster will depend on the wind. Up on speed is ideal.
15. Sarahmae
7. Tuco Salamanca
5. Go Athletico
8. Francisco’s Piece
Betting Strategy
Wide open handicap and won’t know if the stand’s side is the place to be yet. Tuco Salamanca is much the best horse but maps horrendously.
7. Joyful Tidings
16. Uncertainty
9. By The Lake
8. Prime Artist
Betting Strategy
Very much a mixed bag with little to no soft ground form to work off.
7. Venetian Sun
2. Composing
6. Suzie Songs
4. Precise
Betting Strategy
BACK: 7. Venetian Sun (WIN) for 4 units
Connections seem to think Venetian Sun might go even better with some juice in the ground and out in trip and she gets both those here. Won the G1 Morny last time and outsped the other fillies at Newmarket prior to that (form has been franked via Royal Fixation) if she handles the stiffer test she could nab her 2nd G1 here quite comfortably.
8. Whistlejacket
1. Art Power
6. Arizona Blaze
2. Bucanero Fuerte
Betting Strategy
BACK: 8. Whistlejacket (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $4.00)
On his day he’s a top class sprinter and has shown a liking for softer ground. Finally gets that here and hasn’t missed the top two in all three Curragh runs. Drawn to be middle of the pack with pace either side of him, so if they split Soumillon can track the quicker side.
BACK: 1. Art Power (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $6.00)
He’s been a horse who rarely puts in effort unless it’s at this track where he’s a 4-time winner. He’s also 1 from 8 when first up which he was last start when rolled by Bucanero Fuerte on ground likely too quick. 50% win rate 2nd up, 50% win rate on soft, 57% win rate at the track. His entire season revolves around this race and he should be shorter. He’s not going to start $12 which he currently is.
BACK: 6. Arizona Blaze (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $5.00)
I think he’s better suited to handling cut than his shorter priced stablemate Bucanero Fuerte. Will be up on speed and keep running and the pair of them may well lead the race and fight it out between themselves. He was way too fast for them in the sapphire stakes here in July and hopefully steps cleanly to do that once more.
5. Saba Desert
2. Gstaad
3. Italy
6. Zavateri
Betting Strategy
BACK: 5. Saba Desert (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.00)
Saba Desert being a Dubawi should handle this softer going and can potentially spoil another hotpot party for Coolmore like he did in the Superlative when thumping Italy. Same sort of prices here and happy to trust the Godolphin charge. Venetian Sun earlier on in the card might be a yardstick for the form – if she gets beat then Gstaad’s price may tumble as she finished alongside her in the Morny when losing his unbeaten record.
9. Amiloc
5. Illinois
2. Al Riffa
6. Leinster
Betting Strategy
BACK: 9. Amiloc (WIN) for 3 units (Rated at $2.50)
Being a gelding he’s ineligible to run in the English St Leger so they’ve had to come here to gun for G1 glory. He takes on the older horses and gets 3.5kg to do so, and drawn sweetly to settle forward. He’s normally been ridden back to settle and relax but they couldn’t do that at Ascot with the track pattern. He was ridden upside down that day and still proved too good and is aiming to maintain the perfect record in a WFA G1.
BACK: 5. Illinois (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.00)
Illinois is the proven stayer in this field and probably deserves favouritism. He’s been nabbed by some seriously good horses this season (Trawlerman, Scandinavia) and they both went on to win again this prep. That form is miles clear for this sort of race vs the G2 stuff that Al Riffa is bringing to the table.
4. One Look
6. Ballet Slippers
9. Red Letter
5. Snellen
Betting Strategy
BACK: 4. One Look (WIN) for 5 units (Rated at $2.00)
She’s changed hands to Wathnan for a massive fee recently and comes here to get her G1. Three time winner at the Curragh and 2nd in the only other run here she produces her best at this venue. Softer ground is a massive boost to her chances and she just needs to find a way to slot in, get some cover and save up her electric turn of foot until late on and she’ll be winning.
12. Crown Oaks
14. Jagged Edge
8. Viking Invasion
4. Rock Of Cashel
Betting Strategy
BACK: 12. Crown Of Oaks (WIN) for 4 units (Rated at $2.40)
Don’t normally like diving into short faves in big fields but he looks so well in here against this bunch. Had two wins and two placings in four starts on good ground before heading to Ascot on soft ground and hosing up by 6L. If he’s that much better on softer ground against a bunch of exposed handicappers who won’t like it, he simply picks himself. Fallon just needs to steer the ship away from the icebergs in the way.
