EXPERT CRICKET TIPS: T20

AUSTRALIA V WEST INDIES THIRD T20

It hasn’t been short on entertainment but the T20 series has somewhat predictably gone the way of Australia who will be looking to sign off their home summer with a clean-sweep of the West Indies by claiming victory at Optus Stadium on Tuesday. Game one played out not dissimilarly to the series opener for the Aussies as they once again accumulated an enormous total after being sent in, this time massacring 4/241 thanks mainly to a typically ballistic knock from the enigmatic Glenn Maxwell (120 not out off 55 balls) and although the Windies passed 200 in reply, the hosts were always in control with paceman Josh Hazlewood (2/31 off four overs) the pick of the bowlers. The Calypso Kings simply had no answer to the outrageous strokeplay from Maxwell, although seamer Alzarri Joseph returned a respectable 1/31 off his four overs and the potency within their batting unit was again evident with captain Rovman Powell crushing 63 off just 36 deliveries to lift them to 9/207 in response.

BETTING STRATEGIES

The spectre of rotation within the playing ranks sees the Aussies start a marginally longer price than the first two games despite winning both, with the market refusing to write off a West Indian victory to close out the summer.

Taking any sort of position on the match odds is fraught with danger as although both squads are not particularly expansive, we don’t know who will be rested until the toss and so we’ll focus our energies elsewhere.

In a power-packed batting line-up, Windies’ opener Brandon King doesn’t generate too many headlines, however he has been one of their more consistent performers in this format, amassing 348 runs at the impressive average of 31.63 in T20Is last year. King has also top-scored in four of his past ten T20Is so looks great value to do so again here.
