VERRY ELLEEGANT PREVIEW AND TIPS (FORMERLY CHIPPING NORTON)
Group 1 | No class restriction, Standard Weight for Age, Three-Years-Old and Upwards | $1,000,000 | Rail: True | Track Conditions: Good 4
Back to Randwick with the rail in the True position. Hot weather leading in and it depends on how much they water the track. Often with this rail position it can be harder to lead.
Formerly the Chipping Norton, the Group 1 over the mile at the start of the Sydney Autumn Carnival was renamed the Verry Elleegant Stakes in 2024 after the 11 time Group 1 winner and two time winner of this very race. Winx won this race four times between 2016 to 2019, before Verry Elleegant won in 2021 and 2022.

PRICE ADVANTAGE HISTORY
Think It Over has been a regular feature in this race over the years, but last year’s victory at $11.97 was a terrific result for Betfair punters. The post commission price blew away the best tote by 26.7%.
Anamoe brained them at the short odds in 2023, with the champ Verry Elleegant herself winning the previous two in 2021 and 2022, with the former coming at a 4.5% edge post commission.
SPEED MAP
Well who leads here? Will it be LINDERMANN at a walk again like the lead up? He went 9.6 lengths slower than class benchmark to the 600m last time and had every chance to run a good race which he did. GOLDEN PATH will be handy again. Slow tempo expected in a typical uncompetitive Sydney early season feature.
KEY RUNNERS
Waller ran the trifecta in the lead up with #9 FANGIRL beating #5 LINDERMANN and #8 VIA SISTINA in the Group 2 Apollo. The latter was well fancied in betting, starting favourite but was just outsprinted by #9 FANGIRL who had momentum at the right time. The race was run at a very slow tempo, some 9.6 lengths slower than class benchmark. The late sectionals showed as much with #8 VIA SISTINA running her final 200m in 10.94, the fastest of the race and the 4th fastest of the meeting. With the SP anchor, rising to 1600m, and with James McDonald jumping on, #8 VIA SISTINA will no doubt be short odds and does look the horse to beat. 4th in that race was #1 CEUWOLF who was not there to win and no doubt had huge improvement. #9 VIA SISTINA was going a little better than him on the line but he will have taken huge improvement from the run.
1. Ceolwulf – Star galloper. Will have taken a huge amount of benefit from the first-up run. Major player.
8. Via Sistina – Have her on top and it is hard not to be with her. We know how good she is but it is just about price. Slow, sit sprint race may not suit her but up to a mile does. Very good late in lead up. James McDonald on, SP anchor. Second up last campaign was a very plain run and her failure which is hard to get out of your mind from this stable. On top but all about price.
9. Fangirl – Winner of the lead up. Hard to knock. Firm track suits. She has a dynamic turn of foot and if it is a sit sprint it helps her chances.

BETTING STRATEGY
All about price for #8 VIA SISTINA. Not overly keen to jump in at odds on but suspect we will get better than that Betfair late.
