Mitch Lewis

BACK: 7. War Eternal (WIN) for 3 units (Rated at $4.00)

Interesting set up for this race here today with some talented stayers resuming but with extra fitness at this point in the prep, a runner like WAR ETERNAL looks as if he hits this at the perfect point of the prep to be winning. He is 3rd up now and has 2 wins at this point in the prep (5:2-1-0) and has a strong record on a wet track. This set up looks ideal while others in the field probably look likely to have improvement to come.

ROSEHILL PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SATURDAY AUGUST 16TH 2025

RAIL: +1m Entire TRACK: Heavy 8

Expecting the track to remain in the heavy range given the weather forecast in the lead up to this meeting. The rail is in a unique position, but it sets up to play fairly with this set up.

9. Audrey’s Lane
8. Convergent
7. Vetwelve
1. Be Real

Betting Strategy

Competitive midway kicking off the meeting this week. AUDREY’S LANE is fit and has performed well enough on wet tracks previously to suggest she should be well enough suited with this set up. CONVERGENT was solid in a similar race to this last time and his previous form to that was good enough to win at this level. VETWEVLE has found form in his last few starts winning 2 of his last 3, he gets in well at the weights but the query might be the wet track. While BE REAL rates well in this field and conditions suit, but likely improves over more ground deeper into the prep.

4. Powder Man
6. Adolphus
13. Fetes Des Meres
3. Kranich

Betting Strategy

POWDER MAN comes into this race 3rd up into the prep, he looks well placed for this given he has a super record 3rd up (5:1-3-1) and has won on the heavy previously, may need luck from the wide barrier. ADOLPHUS resumes and has a good record 1st up (3:2-0-0) untested on the wet but can run well fresh. FETES DES MERES has won 3 of her last 4 starts and is in good form, but those were on good rated tracks which is the query. KRANICH next is in good form and comes out of a handy race where he had good market support.

4. Ninja
6. Fermoy
5. Crown The King
2. Without Peer

Betting Strategy

NINJA has been well spruiked in his 2 career runs to date and broke through for a maiden win last start at short odds. He handled the wet track that day and looks well placed again here. FERMOY looks a main threat resuming for his 2nd career prep, recent trials have been solid. CROWN THE KING is a last start winner at a short price on a heavy track, he needs to take a step up in grade but showed enough last prep to be capable of doing so. WITHOUT PEER was a winner on debut and looks to take a step up here, needs to find improvement on the 1st up run but mapping well.

1. Pippie Beach
8. Tuileries
2. Sacred Rocks
9. Amreekiyah

Betting Strategy

LAY: 9. Amreekiyah (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $6.50)

Looks a really strong BM78 that should likely prove to be a good form reference. Happy to take on AMREEKIYAH with the set up she has here today, she was handy when resuming, but needs to take a step up here and looks to get an awkward run against some handy types like PIPPIE BEACH & SACRED ROCKS who map for much stronger runs.

5. Pallaton
7. Grand Prairie
1. Skyhook
4. Nashville Jack

Betting Strategy

Another race that likely will prove to be a strong form reference through the spring. There are a few unknowns in the race which make it hard to be confident, in particularly the fact that these young horses are unproven on heavy tracks. PALLATON could well be the best runner to come out of the race, 1st up on a heavy track is a query despite looking to handle the going in a recent trial. GRAND PRAIRIE is the only runner who has seen a heavy track on race day and he did run 2nd that day. SKYHOOK was good in strong form races last prep and resumes here, expect he can go well here but may have improvement to come. NASHVILLE JACK got a good run last start for a win and improvement on that could have him go close here.

14. Amusing
11. Pure Alpha
10. Monarchs Brae
2. Travolta

Betting Strategy

AMUSING has won 2 in a row now and last start was in a very similar race to this, he again looks likely to get a positive run and can handle the conditions, looks every chance again. PURE ALPHA has run 2nd in his last 2 starts and is looking close to a win, rising slightly in trip suits and he should be around the mark again. MONARCHS BRAE comes into this with a freshen up, back to the 1900m looks a good move given he does have 4 wins at this trip. TRAVOLTA has won 2 of 3 this start, in good form and has won on a wet track, gets every chance.

7. War Eternal
4. Birdman
1. Land Legend
6. Our Gold Hope

Betting Strategy

10. Captain Furai
16. Starman
8. Hanau
5. Puntin

Betting Strategy

CAPTAIN FURAI looks likely to be an improver 2nd up here and is well suited on a heavy track given his record (4:2-2-0). STARMAN gets a good opportunity for a win here 3rd up now, he comes out of a good form race and is suited slightly up in trip, needs luck from a wide barrier though. HANAU put in a good run to win 2 starts back before a bad one last time, suggest he likely had an issue and can bounce back here. PUNTIN is rock hard fit now and looks likely to race up on speed and get out in front, untested on a heavy track is the query.

14. Theblade
4. Roselyn’s Star
7. Polyglot
1. Bonita Queen

Betting Strategy

BACK: 14. Theblade (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $5.00)

Willing to give THEBLADE on more chance here fresh, his debut performance a year ago was ultra impressive when producing a high rating to win. In his 2 runs since, he hasn’t managed to hit that level again, but happy to give him a chance again here off the back of a strong recent trial.

12. Perfumist
10. Bunker Hut
3. Disneck
8. Pocketing

Betting Strategy

A strong race to finish off this meeting, the resuming PERFUMIST has a good record 1st up and has looked positive in 2 recent trials. She was going well last prep so if she can find that level of form again she should be suited. BUNKER HUT comes into this race fitter 2nd up now and maps to be in a strong position in running. DISNECK is another runner who was performing at a strong level last prep, better suited 2nd up now but a query is the wet track. POCKETING resumes, she found a good level of form last prep, well suited on a heavy track but may be best suited over more ground later this prep.
