BACK: 5. Spelman (WIN & PLACE) for 2 units @
Spelman resumes from a break and generally has a good record here at Gawler and does enjoy these chopped up tracks. Might be looking for a touch further but does draw well and gets the services of Jason Holder. Robert The Puss made really good headway for a close up 3rd at this track and in heavy conditions. Will get a similar set up here but looks very well placed with the 3kg claim for Polly Brewster. Saint Michael started very short in the market at Balaklava but was a bit disappointing for 3L 5th. Prepared to forgive that. Is drawn for a soft run in transit here and has placed only start on the heavy. The old timer France’s Boy looks the likey leader here. He ploughs through the heavy conditions and you know he is a tough bugger and that’s what you need when conditions are like this. Will give a great sight and might prove too strong.

GAWLER PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SATURDAY JULY 5TH 2025
RAIL: True TRACK: Soft 7
6. Intonation
1. Aramoso
13. Stolen Kiss
8. Kiss And Kaboom
Betting Strategy
No bet race here. The first starter in Intonation could be hard to beat here. Trialed very well and the hoop was ultra soft on it late in decent time on the day. That surface was pretty choppy at Morphettville so expect him to get through the trying Gawler track just fine. Might have more upside than a few of these that have had plenty of chances. That includes Aramoso that is bursting to finally break through at his 23rd start. The horse is racing very consistently at metro level including finishing second the past couple. Nice claim and likes soft tracks. Will likely lead and give a great sight. Stolen Kiss draws wide but gets the services of Lachy Neindorf who seems that he can win from anywhere. Caught the eye late in the same race as Aramoso last time out. That was over 1050m so the step up to 1200m looks the goods. Kiss And Kaboom had a luckless run fresh at Balaklava but still got through the line well for 4th. Strips fitter and draws for a handy run in transit.
9. Violet Luvbug
4. Bootlegger
5. Laws Wars
1. Dampen
Betting Strategy
No bet race. There was a bit of a spruik around Violet Luvbug on debut and that proved to be correct with a dominant front running display victory at Balaklava. Steps up to metro level now but looks to be quite progressive. Draws well and Price sticks. Can win again. Bootlegger had some solid market support on debut and ran a cracking closing 2nd at this track. The extra 100m looks to suit, draws well and proven on trying surfaces. Can go one better. Laws Wars is on debut here and looked professional running 3rd at a recent trial. Always respect the Jolly juveniles and regular stable rider Jake Toeroek aboard. Dampen probably has the strongest race form with a nice closing 3rd in a 200k juvenile race. Have a slight query with the soft/wet tracks. If he handles then then he’s probably the one to beat.
6. The Western Front
2. Oxford Blue
4. Mark Of The Man
1. Under The Cone
Betting Strategy
No bet race but not a bad affair with some form coming from across the border. The Western Front comes across for the Hayes boys and is fitter for 2 runs back from a spell. Was only fair at Sandown on a tricky day and condition may have given out in the last 100m because of trying track conditions. Is 1/1 3rd up from a break and draws well. Looks ready to peak. Oxford Blue changes hands from J.Sandhu to the powerful Theodore yard and was a touch plain last start over the 2000m. Been given a freshen up and the drop back to 1700m should suit. The trainer gets these tried horses going straight away and expect nothing less here. Mark Of The Man was heavily back at the Parks track last weekend and led almost everywhere but the post. This looks easier and the claim helps the cause. Draws well. and handles all conditions. Under The Cone has had a 4 week freshen after an average effort at Morphettville last start. Previous form was very good and the step up to 1700m looks ideal. Blinkers on first time could sharpen things up.
1. The Great Baby
5. Lovely Lookin
10. Beauty Bound
7. Winning Revolution
Betting Strategy
BACK: 1. The Great Baby (WIN) for 2 units
The Great Baby was met with strong market support last start and was really good to just miss behind the talented Sir Now. That forms has proven to be correct with Sir Now winning again at metro level. Drops slightly in grade and the 2nd up form is strong. Todd Pannell sticks the ride. Lovely Lookin was racing in great style before a blemish last time out where the horse pulled up lame. You have to forgive that. She’s a tough mare that never runs a bad race and does handle the soft. Expect her to bounce back. Beauty Bound really caught the eye last start for 2nd when came charging through the pack late. Up in grade but is down sharply in weight. Is 1/1 at the track/distance and a senior takes over. Ticks a few boxes. Winning Revolution is very hard to catch but his best is good enough. Loves the sting out and hasn’t missed the quinella in two runs at this track dist
13. Katim’s Club
1. Motorace
9. Swycho
6. Proven Correct
Betting Strategy
BACK: 13. Katim’s Club (WIN & PLACE) for 2 units
Katim’s Club was really stiff last weekend when blocked badly for runs in the straight and clearly should have won. Hit the line when out for 1.6L 3rd. On the 7 day back up suggests the horse has plenty in the locker from that run. Never missed the quinella in 2 runs at Gawler and handles all conditions. Draws for a soft run in transit. Motorace did enough fresh for 4th to suggest a win 2nd up could be on the cards. He drops a fair bit in grade here so the 3kg claim will help with the big weight. 2nd up form is good and handles all tracks. The stablemate Swycho is another second up here and had excuses first up when raced wide and knocked up. Forgive that and respect the early market support. Is 1/1 at Gawler. Proven Correct was good first up but a bit plain 2nd up from a spell when 7th. Probably didn’t appreciate the real heavy track so getting back on soft should suit. 3rd up form is very good.

10. Mystic Wonder
1. Stirrup Cup
9. Garcon Renard
Betting Strategy
BACK: 8. Yes I Believe (WIN) for 2 units
Yes I Believe was a dominant 5L victor two back before running very well again at metro level when closed hard for 1.9L 4th last weekend. Gives the impression the extra 100m will suit and looks a promising purchase by Chris Bieg.
BACK: 10. Mystic Wonder (WIN) for 2 units
Hardest race of the day to figure out. Mystic Wonder does a bit wrong at the start but she is finally showing the good ability she showed at the trials. Bombed the start and then was luckless in the straight last weekend and clearly should have won. On the 7 day back up and loves soft tracks. Stirrup Cup is racing in great heart and was a powerful winner last time out. The horse has a brilliant record here at Gawler and handles the conditions. Gets in smartly with the 3kg claim for Flick Atkinson. Garcon Renard ran well behind Stirrup Cup last start for a close up 5th. The horse loves racing here at Gawler and has a great record over this distance
7. Wine Baron
6. Shakespeare
11. Burning Bright
5. Chance Taken
Betting Strategy
No bet race. Don’t like this one at all. Wine Baron was a dominant winner two back but then went awfully as a $3 favourite last time out. The horse may have been over the top as Michael Hickmott has given him a 6 week freshen for this. He draws well and loves racing at Gawler. Can bounce back. Shakespeare was noticed making good ground at odds at Morphettville last time out for 3L 6th. Drops sightly in grade but gets weight relief with the 2kg claim for T.Johnstone. Likes the cut out and 1/1 track/distance. Looks the long odds chance of the race. Burning Bright finished a narrow 4th to Chance Taken. Now meets that horse 2kg better off a the weights and has never missed a place in three runs at Gawler. Chance Taken was a strong winner on debut for the Chris Bieg team since coming across from NZ. Will have no issues with a cut up track and is open to more natural improvement.
5. Anotherhouse
3. Clarence
4. Sign From Above
1. The Guava
Betting Strategy
BACK: 5. Anotherhouse (WIN) for 2 units
Anotherhouse was truck loaded in the betting last Saturday but poor Todd Pannell needed a chopper license as the horse got stuck behind a slow one falling in the lap. Got out late but the bird had flown. Still worked through the line well for 3rd. On the week back up here and will likely benefit from the wide gate where he can’t get trapped. Can bounce back.
BACK: 3. Clarence (WIN) for 1 unit
Clarence has been slightly disappointing both runs this prep but the rides haven’t been all that flash. Gets a senior on here and is 1/1 3rd up. Worth one more chance here. Sign From Above was solid enough for 3rd first up from a spell. Will strip fitter and always respect the Stokes/Neindorf combination. Draws well and 2nd up form is solid. The Guava didn’t have much luck last time out when blocked for runs in the straight but kept finding for 0.8L 3rd. Drops in grade and gets weight relief from Caitlin Toottell’s 3kgs.
2. Nurys
7. Miss Cotoletta
13. Endless Forevers
10. Impending Diamond
Betting Strategy
No bet race to end the day. Nurys had been starting hard in the market at metro level but slightly under-performing so David Huxtable took the horse down to Bordertown for a mid-week level easy kill. That might be the confidence the horse needs. Draws well and likes the sting out. Todd Pannell sticks who rode the horse perfectly last time out. Can win again. Miss Cotoletta comes across from the Jason Warren camp and he usually places them well when border hopping. Went down as a hot favourite first up but has since been back to the jumps outs looking good in a recent one. Will strip fitter, draws well and gets the services of South Australia’s best rider. Loves the heavy tracks so rain around will help. Endless Forevers was a good debut winner at Balaklava before spelling. Looked good at a recent trial and Michael Hickmott places his lightly raced horses very well. Might have some good upside and bred to swim. Impending Diamond deserves another crack at town after a couple of mid-week successes at this track. She loves the tough conditions and getting out wide late and swamping them. Will have to try and do the same from gate 15
