Track: Eagle Farm | Distance: 1200m | Type: Group 1 WFA | Rail Position: True | Condition: Soft 7 improving to Soft 5/Good 4 | Prizemoney: $1,500,000

Interesting map in this year’s Doomben 10,000 with no real natural leader engaged. Body Bob has led them up at fast tempos in previous preps however in recent starts has taken a sit. Private Eye attempted to lead last start but generally settles just behind the pace.

Expect Mazu, Bella Nipotina and Wee Nessy to settle on pace. Tim Clark on Stefi Magnetica is an interesting engagement coming into this from a short freshen, potential intent to try and lead. The fave I Wish I Win could be drawn a little sticky in gate one but gets an in-form J Mac 26% his last 50 rides and four winners last weekend from five rides.

1. I Wish I Win
5. Bella Nipotina
2. Private Eye
8. Wee Nessy

The race revolves around I Wish I Win who produced a solid performance first up from a long break and looked to peak on his run late. Although drawn slightly tricky in gate one, it is hard to be against him under these circumstances with James McDonald in the saddle. There does look to be enough pace in the race that the field can break up on the turn and James can find the right lane when needed.

Bella Nipotina continues to race well, and she was tough last start after a wide run throughout. Drawn softer today she is the one who will likely get the run of the race. Mazu returned to the winner’s circle when down in grade last start but he got his preferred heavy conditions there and from a wide gate and likely back to a soft 5/good 4 track I am doubtful he can win this with just the one win on a good track from twelve attempts.

Espiona made a strong impression in her first two runs this prep however potentially heavy tracks have resulted in her performing below expectations at her last start. Ignoring last start she was unlucky in the TJ and if there is pace on and I Wish I Win has traffic issues she could be the one finishing strongest with a clear passage.

With many of the key chances mixing their form coming into this and with the early market looking efficient, I am not confident a good betting opportunity presents itself but I still feel there is an opportunity to play small around the top two in betting and Mazu.

Back (Win) I Wish I Win for 1 unit
Back (Win) Espiona for 0.5 unit
Lay (Place) Mazu for 1 unit

Want to learn how to lay bet?

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.
