EXPERT RACING TIPS: SANDOWN

Best Bets

Jackson Oldham

BACK: 7. Zloties (WIN) for 4 units (Rated at $2.20)

I am of the opinion that Zloties is a Group class Mare and she has been very well placed in BM70 Mares grade again. She was outstanding first-up off a long spell against the bias at Geelong behind Happy Link, who has won twice since. She overcame the race shape again last start, ripping off some great closing sectionals to reel in Walk Of Fame. She can settle closer and up to 1400m suits.

LAY: 8. Verdad (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $4.20)

Verdad ran well first-up off some very slick jumpouts but did so with all favours and inside runs. I doubt he gets the same favours from the wide gate and looks the easiest favourite to take on for the program.

SANDOWN PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 28TH 2024

RAIL: True | TRACK: Soft 6

Currently rated a S6 as of Thursday morning, I expect we will get back to somewhere near a G4 in 48 hours time. I expect the track to play evenly.

4. Treasurethe Moment
3. Chewing Gum
2. Khadime
6. Heat Of The Night

Betting Strategy

Treasure the Moment was backed strongly early first-up here at Sandown then was a 5.1% firmer the last hour on Betfair and just found one better in Happy Link. A deserved favourite but I couldn’t find any edge at even money.

4. Ndola
5. Sugar Coat
2. Daggers
3. Detroit City

Betting Strategy

Tricky to know the final look of this field with two from the pointy end of the market in on Friday night too. Ndola on top, was great here two back then was drawn the wrong part of the track down the straight last start.

7. Zloties
3. Written In Code
12. Miss Winslet
6. Walk Of Fame

10. Freight Train
12. Alma Rise
5. Electric Impulse
1. A Samuari Mind

Betting Strategy

Freight Train won well first-up with tempo against at Sandown then just went down last start with a big gap to third. Alma Rise is a profile I would usually be against, a stayer resuming at 1800m against race fit horses but we saw Saban for the same stable win off a similar profile at Flemington last Sunday.

8. Gallant Son
11. Winnasedge
2. Stanley Express
5. Manolo Bling

Betting Strategy

Hard to preview this race with the top three in the market all accepted for MV on Friday night also.

2. Muramasa
5. Berkeley Square
13. Aramco
9. Keats

Betting Strategy

Little between top and bottom in an open race. Muramasa the big improver.

11. Craig
1. Desert Lightning
5. Nicolini Vito
7. Holymanz

Betting Strategy

Craig is the most progressive horse in this race, $2.6 looks about right though.

18. Modown
13. Prowling
4. Rhapsody Chic
8. Verdad

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.
