EXPERT RACING TIPS: BENDIGO

BENDIGO PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | THURSDAY JUNE 26TH 2025

RAIL: True TRACK: Heavy 8

The last meeting at Bendigo was twelve days ago and although it was officially rated a S6, I thought it raced wetter than that so I am concerned about the track. Today is a heavy 8, and I am wary of how the track will play.

Best Bets

Jackson Oldham

BACK: 11. Complete Unknown (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $2.50)

Complete Unknown was terrific on debut in a harder race than this, the step up in trip suits and he only has to handle the heavy ground to be right in the finish.

17. Earth’s Abundance
11. Sternin
6. Elonia
2. Big Star

Betting Strategy

A really tricky race, Earth’s Abundance was good enough on debut here at Bendigo in that last meeting, so confidence she handles the track and I like dropping back to the 1000m.

10. Miss Castelvecchio
14. Triple Oh
3. Fearless Monarch
8. Luminol

Betting Strategy

Miss Castelvecchio has been jumping out well and she was good at her first preparation. A big query of the race is both favourites being first-up on a heavy track.

11. Complete Unknown
5. Sacred Fort
2. Fox Strike
3. Giles

Betting Strategy

BACK: 11. Complete Unknown (WIN) for 1 unit (Rated at $2.50)

Complete Unknown was terrific on debut in a harder race than this, the step up in trip suits and he only has to handle the heavy ground to be right in the finish.

12. Tamahine
10. Girlpower
8. Aberlutely
11. Los Alamoss

Betting Strategy

Tamahine won’t find a better chance to break her maiden than this, she was hard in the market and good first-up off 251-days at Sandown then had to make a looping run at Sale, was just beaten by a smart one and gapped third.

6. Split
2. Affluential
3. Highland Blaze

Betting Strategy

A cracking contest, plenty of eyes will surely be on this race. Split has the win at the 3600m on a wet deck twelve days ago here at Bendigo, Affluential runs two miles and above what feels like every second day so I doubt he will be lacking for fitness and similar for Highland Blaze. I’m expecting a big crowd on course just to witness this spectacle.

9. Fauci
3. Capital Asset
11. Our Lone Star
5. Lord Domino

Betting Strategy

An even race, very tricky.

3. Yam
11. Renovation Show
5. Princess Nefertiti
2. Valley King

Betting Strategy

Another tricky race, Yam flies on the wet tracks so expect he is right in the finish.

3. Rivkin
13. Thinking Of Gerty
14. Pride Of Sullivan
8. Mr Hansel

Betting Strategy

Rivkin brings in the best formlines, no surprise to see him well support and this is Ruby Lamont’s second ride, I’m usually hard against these inexperienced apprentices but I really liked her style riding at Donald last week.

12. Kira
1. Castle On High
6. Fields Of Courage
10. The Arrow

Betting Strategy

Kira is no world beater but jumped out well prior to her first-up run then ran well at Sale, that form has stacked up.

BENDIGO RACING TIPS

Bendigo Racecourse was first established in 1858 and is situated approximately 150 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD. It has established a reputation as “the nursery of champions”, with several revered racehorses – including seven-time Group 1 winner Better Loosen Up and the 2009 Melbourne Cup hero Shocking – having broken their maiden at the picturesque track. From maidens to feature races, our punting experts bring you their Bendigo tips across all meetings. Mr. J A Canton, who would later become a notable Melbourne magistrate, was the club’s first President. The inaugural Sandhurst Cup, which would become the Bendigo Cup, was staged in 1868 and was won by Old England.

In 1873, the Bendigo Jockey Club converted the Bendigo Racecourse to anti-clockwise running and the old grandstand, which had stood on the opposite side of the course, was replaced by a new one. This grandstand was then replaced in November 1902 by the stand that still graces the racecourse to this very day.

The $400,000 Bendigo Cup, held each October over a distance of 2400m, has traditionally been considered a lead-up race to the Melbourne Cup. The Group 3 contest has been won in the past by several international raiders including Francis of Assisi (2016) and Qewy (2017), both owned by Godolphin and trained in the UK by Charlie Appleby. Horses have also used it for other races during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, such as the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Golden Mile Raceday is also a key fixture on the club calendar, head to the Betfair Hub for Bendigo best bets throughout the year.

In 1998, the entire track was reconstructed and the racecourse now has a circumference of 1,995 metres, and a home straight of 400 metres. The big oval course is 24m wide and caters for races from 1000m to 2400m, plus jumps races over 3000m. The course features two starting chutes, one providing for races over 1000m and 1100m, and the other for races over 1500m and 1600m. The 1600m start provides a long straight run of 800m to the well-cambered horseshoe turn that leads into the long home straight. Sticking to the rail is always the shortest route home, but most runners tend to get their chance in the home straight as the wide track at Bendigo generally races very fairly.
