LAY: 1. Fire Paws (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $4.00)

Fire Paws came through the Grafton qualifiers where he defeated Khatanga Tex by upwards of five lengths. He has shown a liking to use the track entering the first corner which is always a concern when drawing the inside box. There’s good speed expected here from the Jemma Daley pair in boxes three and eight who will be looking to carve across. Despite his impressive record, he is too short in betting and could easily be checked off balance on the first turn.

BACK: 3. Jay Is Jay (WIN) for 4 units (Rated at $1.60)

Match racing is a brilliant spectacle that all racing enthusiasts enjoy. This edition is certainly not one to miss with the 2024 Golden Easter Egg winner, Mackenna facing off with the “King Of The Creek” in Jay Is Jay. I’m not sure how well Mackenna is going at the moment. She hasn’t begun at all in her past two starts which has resulted in two unplaced runs. She has subsequently missed the start in a trial last Thursday night in preparation for this race. She won’t be able to get away with that against Jay Is Jay who lines up fresh and is sure to spear the lids. He owns this format having won both his match race starts in impressive fashion. If he happened to cross her early it’s game, set, match. Good enough to sit outside her and put the blowtorch on her mid race as well.

1. Royal Voltage
3. Cash Cloud
6. Whistle Away
5. Togatuki

Betting Strategy

BACK: 1. Royal Voltage (WIN) for 3 units (Rated at $2.00)

Royal Voltage has been a pillar of consistency since stepping out to the 520m placing in all five attempts. He led everywhere bar the post last Thursday when being caught in the shadows of the post by the strong Mickayla Swift. He defeated Cash Cloud on that occasions by ½ length and she appears to be his biggest rival once again. Expect Royal Voltage to use box one to perfection, lead and prove hard to run down.

6. Tom Keeping
4. Excessive
1. Daysea’s Rowdy
3. Georgie Choo

Betting Strategy

Tom Keeping has found an incredibly winnable race in his Brisbane debut. Only a few months ago he was running good first splits at Wentworth Park and if he was able to replicate that here he should lead and prove hard to run down.

Excessive was an emphatic winner in this grade three starts ago running 30.22. She has since had no luck from outside boxes. Drawn closer to the fence here and will charge home best.

Daysea’s Rowdy has won three of his past five starts in this company. He’s drawn well down low and will run another honest race.

8. Canya Amy
2. Lena Jinx
7. Sanisha
6. Blue Hornet

Betting Strategy

Canya Amy is racing in stellar form placing in three recent staying feature races. She has trialled well in the lead up to this race and has won both her attempts from box eight.

Lena Jinx was an alarming drifter on her Albion Park debut and the market was spot on as she finished a well beaten last. That’s back to back last place finishes and she will be looking to bounce back. Has a favourable map to do so.

Sanisha has been building the revs at the staying distance in recent weeks and isn’t too far away from a win.

3. Johnny Koala
1. Fire Paws
8. Hara’s Buddy
4. Not Without

Betting Strategy

4. Trooper Tears
3. Lakeview Emily
1. Shima Current
7. Superstar Ethics

Betting Strategy

There’s no doubt the motor Trooper Tears has. He gets an ideal set up with a vacant outside box which should allow him to use the track as he pleases.

Lakeview Emily has recaptured form in recent weeks winning a heat of the Flying Amy in a BON 29.72 and following this effort with a luckless second in the final. She will get her chance to find the arm here and will be hard to run down from the front.

Shima Current heads north of the border after a string of runs over the 450m at Ballarat. He was an all the way winner in FFA company at Sandown just a month ago and a repeat of this effort would see him be competitive here.

4. Sunset Frazier
2. Kahlo Hayze
6. Nad Al Sheba
7. Saanvi

Betting Strategy

LAY: 1. Zipping Strop (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $7.00)

Zipping Strop has an excellent motor; however, I’m not convinced he will handle the pressure of this race. His best performances to date have come on one turn tracks around the provincial circuit where he has had the time to get into his work. He is a scratchy beginner at the best of times and he has Tarawi Lee and Sunset Frazier drawn outside him who are two of the better beginners set to go around on this program. Expect Zipping Strop to get crossed early and not have the class to pick up runners.

4. Palawa King
1. Fahey’s Magic
7. Valpolicella
6. First Picked

Betting Strategy

BACK: 4. Palawa King (WIN) for 3 units (Rated at $2.00)

The Origin Distance race looms as a cracker as arch rivals Valpolicella and Palawa King go head to head once again. Palawa King will don the blue rug and I’ve got him coming out on top here to put NSW up 1-0. He returned to winning form last week over the 622m at Richmond with a dominant display. He will appreciate rising to the 710m at Albion Park where he has won three of his four outings. He’s drawn superbly in box four with three fast beginners drawn underneath him unlikely to give him grief. Expect him to flop out, search for the rails and explode passing the post the first time.

2. Zipping Megatron
8. Good Odds Cobber
5. Magistrate
4. Overflow Beau

Betting Strategy

On paper, the Origin Sprint race is an incredibly even contest; however, the QLD chasers map awfully with a few upside down box draws looking to go against them.

Zipping Megatron had the greyhound gods on his side last week with both Trooper Tears and I’m Peakin’ running off the track badly on the first turn which allowed him to lead and win in 29.69. It won’t be that easy this week; however, Cluster in box one will angle off so all he has to do is stay in the boxes and get underneath him exiting the first turn. Runs home best here.

Good Odds Cobber defeated Magistrate last week in a slick 29.85 improving out of sight from his first run at Albion Park. He has won six of his seven starts from the pink box and will get room to move early with Bear’s Bullet set to crash towards the fence.

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.

3. Jay Is Jay
1. Mackenna

Betting Strategy

BACK: 3. Jay Is Jay (WIN) for 4 units (Rated at $1.60)

8. Scarlatti
1. Binny Doo
5. Tarawi Moo
4. Hidden Agenda

Betting Strategy

LAY: 5. Tarawi Moo (WIN) for 2 units (Rated at $3.00)

Tarawi Moo has been spectacular in recent weeks; however, had her colours lowered last week in the G2 Cyndie’s Magic final when finishing last. She’s got more than enough class to bounce back here; however, she’s going to have to overcome a difficult map. First, she has to cross Hidden Agenda who will want to run off. If she can do that, she’ll still have to cross Snowy Waugh who should comfortably lead her out. If she does that as well, she could’ve burned a few too many tickets which will allow Scarlatti and Binny Doo to run over the top turning for home.

1. Excavation
4. Cindy Keeping
8. Zipping Optimise
7. She Is Fire

Betting Strategy

Excavation was a dominant all the way winner over this track and trip last week. He recorded some slick early sections to win in 29.72. Looking to go four from five out of box one.

Cindy Keeping had her first look at Albion Park three starts ago when second to Pronouns in 30.05. She has since won back to back races at Gunnedah including the $40,000 Chief Havoc. Will run home strongly.

Zipping Optimise hasn’t been beginning recently which has ruined any chance of winning. More than capable on his night.

2. Danger Zone
4. Seaway Flyer
6. Aidan’s Queen
3. More Capers

Betting Strategy

Speed Zone is a pillar of consistency over this track and trip winning five and placing in a further 13 from 27 starts. He maps ideally here. Will cross the red early and More Capers outside could interfere with Seaway Flyer. Last 50m always the knock with him.

Seaway Flyer has really found form of late in Monday night races winning two of his past three starts. Equipped with a strong run home and will only need to be within four lengths off the stripes to run him down.

Aidan’s Queen has explosive early speed on her night and will be looking to burn across from box six.
