LAY: Ferrari – Constructors Winner W/O Red Bull (WIN) for 1 unit below $2.50

Whilst the team has potential with reported huge improvements coming to the SF-24, the internal team management and driver dynamics make me happy to be against them in the betting markets.

BACK: McLaren Constructors Winner – Without Red Bull (WIN) for 0.5 units at $2.80+

With F1 relying heavily on internal team balance, the hope is that McLaren can hold it together and we see less restructuring than in 2023. I would be shocked to see McLaren fall outside of the Top six and wouldn’t be surprised if they can finish P2 behind Red Bull.

Red Bull | 2023 Constructors

2023 was described as a “race for second place”, Max Verstappen and Red Bull were invincible. They took the Drivers and Constructors Championships, and for the first time in their history, they had both drivers finish one and two.

The season was littered with records; winning all races bar one and Verstappen leading for over 1000 laps throughout the season.

This positions Red Bull to maintain momentum into 2024. The team accumulated over $213 million in winnings throughout the year which they will have put straight into improving an already dominant car. Adrian Newey is known for not sitting still, so we can be confident the team was developing the car in the middle of last year as they extended their lead.

Sergio Perez “Checo” had a fluctuating season, labelled as fighting for his seat, and struggling against Verstappen. Despite securing one & two, the gap separating him and Verstappen was 290 points.

We would have hoped for a more competitive version of Checo, given he is known for his fierce defensive driving style.

Stable regulations, seemingly limited room for improvement, could see the pack tightening, especially on tighter street circuits like Singapore, where the team have shown themselves to be more vulnerable.

For Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, and Aston Martin, surpassing Red Bull will be a tough task that I greatly doubt is possible.

Limited value in the Market for Red Bull to win the Constructors nor the Drivers’ championship, so I will look for opportunities elsewhere.

Mercedes | 2nd place

It was the first time since 2011 that Mercedes failed to win a race all season. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton with teammate George Russell managed to hold onto second place in the constructor’s championship, showing an ability to score points with a below-par car. Without winning, Hamilton managed to place second in a few races, including Australia.

Hamilton’s recent news of joining Ferrari in 2025 season feels like a side quest to fulfil his aspirations of wearing red rather than the pursuit of another title. You would hope so, given the seven world titles Mercedes sponsored him through.

George Russell faced many, ending eighth in the Drivers’ Championship on 175 points with two podiums.

The teams’ struggles arose from changes to aerodynamics rules introduced in 2022. Owner and Team boss Toto Wolff, labelled the W14 “miserable”.

Wolff has expressed plans with the W15, explaining how every part will be rebuilt and that the list of parts remaining the same is short.

This task could put them in a more competitive car or present further issues.

Despite Hamilton cracking his 40’s I still see him being able to perform at the top level if given a competitive car, although wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a rockier start to the season for Mercedes, although, viewers trust in the well-oiled team is justified.

Ferrari | 3RD Place

Ferrari hoped to enter 2023 with a reliable car and unfortunately, we received far from, with issues right from the jump.

As the most recognisable and supported teams in F1, the 2023 season was a tough watch. Securing six pole positions and only one victory, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz battled with tyre management and race pace when in the open air.

Couple this with a strategy team incapable of organising a birthday party, you get a team that cannot string a seamless race together.

The season wasn’t all downhill, as an opportunity for the team to recover from these shortfalls and improve, which they arguably did, just missing out on second place in the Constructors.

The duo will share the 2024 season before breaking up as they make way for Hamilton’s team entry.

With Sainz celebrating a victory in Singapore last year as the only non-Red Bull driver to win a Grand Prix, Leclerc is looking to bounce back from a winless campaign.

McLaren | 4th place

McLaren started at the back of the Grid at Bahrain ending the calendar with six second-place finishes for Lando Norris after borrowing components from Red Bull’s RB19 which immediately paid off.

Norris’s new Aussie teammate Oscar Piastri, displayed one of the most impressive performances as a rookie, securing 97 points in his debut season, and rightly being labelled 2023 FIA rookie of the year, with a similar performance unseen since Hamilton’s entry into F1.

With Oscar and Lando contracted together until 2026 they are a team to watch if the right car is under them. Lando stepped up as the senior driver of the team and was pushed by the early performance of Piastri.

Aston Martin | 5th place

Fernando Alonso proved he still has juice in the tank securing eight podium finishes. Alongside controversies, and despite a car drop-off in the middle of the season, Lance Stroll was able to dig his heels deep after his injuries to assist Alonso with their standings. They regained control and finished fifth.

In late 2022, the turnaround they achieved was labelled “unthinkable”. Aston Martin battled with top teams like Ferrari and Mercedes, with Alonso feeling at one with the car throughout a lot of the season.

If the team can manage the development throughout the season, they will remain competitive and potentially improve standings.

Looking ahead to this season, Alonso should be looking more settled throughout and able to continue to guide his teammate for a stronger overall team result. He showed good leadership throughout 2023, even coaching Lance Stroll mid-race by watching the TVs around the track.

With slight increases in the car’s straight-line speed, I see them in the same position if not P4.
