Australia and South Africa head to Cairns for the series decider to be played out at Cazaly’s Stadium on Saturday night. The Proteas made it 1-1 in devastating fashion on Tuesday night with starlet Dewald Brevis announcing himself to Australian audiences with a breathtaking 125 not out off 56 balls which capitulated the South Africans to 7/218, a total that was never seriously threatened thanks to a tight spell from all-rounder Corbin Bosch (3/20 off three overs). The only Australian bowler to escape the punishment from Brevis was left-arm seamer Ben Dwarshuis who finished with impressive figures of 2/24 off his four overs, while with the bat Tim David (50 off 24 balls) briefly threatened to make a game of it before his dismissal triggered a collapse of 7/61 with the hosts dismissed for 165 in the 18th over. As a result, whilst still favourites the Australians’ price has been pushed out with the punters having a bit more belief in the visitors’ chances of coming from 1-0 down to take the series. Certainly Australia will need to revisit their bowling plans to South Africa’s new star, but they will retain confidence from the fact that they have not lost back-to-back T20Is at home in almost three years, while the Proteas have only beaten Zimbabwe in successive T20Is away from home in that time so I do think the price about the home side presents some value.
