FEATURE PREVIEWS: FUTURITY STAKES

FUTURITY STAKES PREVIEW

TRACK: Caulfield | DISTANCE: 1400 | RAIL POSITION: 4M | TRACK CONDITIONS: Good 4 | PRIZE MONEY: $750,000

Hot conditions expected through the week so a very firm track could favour the on pacers. Won in recent years by some top sprinter/milers including Mr Brightside, Alligator Blood, Probabeel, Brave Smash, Turn Me Loose, Suavito, Moment Of Change and All Too Hard. The class on-pacers often win here. Orr Stakes winners have a good record in this race, which makes sense given this race has the exact same conditions.

BETFAIR PRICE ADVANTAGE HISTORY

Mr Brightside dominated the markets in 2024, saluting with a BSP of $1.52 which still marginally outdid the corporate average.

Alligator Blood was also very short in 2023, with the most recent upset occuring in 2022 with Sierra Sue got up with a BSP  of $14.08, which was 2.4% better than Best Tote that year.

SPEED MAP

Average early speed expected here with Pericles, Light Infantry Man, Private Life and Mr Brightside pushing forward. Private Life & Mr Brightside risk getting caught wide. Place Du Carrousel, Evaporate, Freedom Rally & Tom Kitten midfield. Pinstriped, I Wish I Win & Super Smink out the back.

KEY RUNNERS

1. Mr Brightside – 8-time G1 winner plus an All-Star Mile. Ran a close 2nd to our winner Another Wil first up with a big gap to 3rd. Tricky map again but clearly the one to beat.

2. I Wish I Win – Top class gelding with a powerful finish. Certainly has the talent to win this but historical profiling of this race doesn’t suit his style.

3. Pericles – Multiple G2 winner who was 2nd beaten a neck in a Golden Eagle. Doesn’t have great record fresh and finds one or two better at G1 level. Does profile nicely though on a number of historical factors.

4. Tom Kitten – G1 winner who does sprint well fresh. Close in the Epsom and Golden Eagle last prep. Does get back

6. Pinstriped – Was plain first up, but usually peaks second up and if repeated past couple of second up wins could figure

10. Private Life – Won the G1 Caulfield Guineas at 5th start, then only beaten 1.3L in the G1 Champions Sprint. Was a well beaten 4th first up but was stuck on the fence. Can improve here.

TOP 4 SELECTIONS

1. Mr Brightside
3. Pericles
10. Private Life
4. Tom Kitten

FUTURITY STAKES BETTING STRATEGIES

Mr Brightside profiles as the clear one to beat, but the market has him even money and he has a tricky map.

Pericles, Private Life & Tom Kitten all profile as the key dangers and are all double figure odds.

FUTURITY STAKES TIPS

The Futurity Stakes is one of the most prestigious horse races in Australia held annually at the Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne. The race is run over a distance of 1400 metres and is open to horses aged three years and over. The event is part of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival which attracts some of the best horses, trainers, and jockeys from around the world.

Over the years, the Futurity Stakes has been won by some of the greatest horses in Australian racing history. Among the most notable winners are Tulloch, Gunsynd, Manikato, and Black Caviar. The race has also been won by many leading trainers, including Bart Cummings, Colin Hayes, Lee Freedman, and Gai Waterhouse.

The Futurity Stakes is a highly competitive race, and punters are always on the lookout for Futurity Stakes tips and predictions. Our team of experts will provide their best bets and racing tips on the Betfair Hub to help punters make informed betting decisions.

One of the reasons that the Futurity Stakes is unique in the Australian horse racing calendar is its place in the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival. The race is usually held in late February or early March, and it is one of the early feature races of the carnival. The race is a good indicator of form for horses that are aiming for the bigger races later in the carnival, such as the Australian Cup, the Newmarket Handicap, and the All-Star Mile.
