EXPERT RACING TIPS: MORPHETTVILLE

MORPHETTVILLE PREVIEW AND TIPS | EXPERT TIPS | SATURDAY AUGUST 23RD 2025

RAIL: +9m 1000m-W/Post; +6m Remainder Sectional 612m TRACK: Soft 6 (Wednesday afternoon)

Parks track (inner)

1. Bacash
4. More Than Hope
2. Kalmana
3. King Ramsis

Betting Strategy

No bet race to start the day. Tricky little small field. On exposed form you would think Bacash is the one here. Ran a narrow 2nd to back to Jimmy Reccard at Flemington. That horse came out an won the G3 Vain Stakes at Caulfield on the weekend. Bombed the start fresh and never a factor at Moonee Valley. Forgive that. More Than Hope is coming off a mid-week win at Murray Bridge but does look to have scope for improvement. Big raw horse that can win again. Kalmana and King Ramsis are also boasting last start mid-week wins. Can no doubt figure here in this open race. Tactics might play a part.

3. Machinegun Mike
5. Ruled By Thieves
13. Rambling
8. Broadbeach Miss

Betting Strategy

BACK: 3. Machinegun Mike (WIN & PLACE) for 2 units

Machinegun Mike has been pretty stiff the past couple of starts. Held up hopelessly along the fence bolting last time out. Forgive that and looks well placed here with the 3kg claim for in-form apprentice Matty Chadwick. Deserves to break through. Ruled By Thieves was a despised outsider 2nd up but really caught the eye from well back in the field at this track over the 1000m trip. Better for recent racing and looks suited with the 250m rise in trip. Won’t be an outsider today! Rambling was OK for 5th over an unsitable 900m scamper at the Bridge. Will appreciate this further trip and like the fact Kayla Crowther is sticking with this one over Nicaloha which she ran a narrow 3rd on last time out. That looks a good push. Broadbeach Miss was in things for a long way but was just grabbed on the line for 2nd last start. Looks the likely leader here and the tight turning Parks track should suit.

4. Peta’s Heart
1. Exalted Fire
13. Rabtat
10. Eight On The Dot

Betting Strategy

No bet race. Peta’s Heart looks a progressive stayer and got the job done with ease last time out after a luckless run prior. She gets in under the minimum with the claim for Taylor Johnstone. Will just need luck from the wide draw. Exalted Fire is what you see is what you get. Doesn’t ever run poorly but you never know what day he’s going to hit the scoreboard. Well placed with the claim for Caitlin Tootell who rides this horse very well. In the mix again. Rabtat was only fair over this track and distance last time out but what brings him right into contention today is the 4kg drop in weight. Can figure. Eight On The Dot was a surprise winner over this track/distance last time out. Draws for a soft run here and can win again. Stable going well

2. I Catchem Fox
3. Cheval Saint
5. The Guava
1. Big Sue

Betting Strategy

Chances look to be in the first few runners here. I Catchem Fox is coming off a first up win at Mount Gambier but this horse is certainly City class. That looked a good kick off point. Hes always ultra competitive at this BM64-BM66 level and has never missed the place in two attempts at the track/distance. Rochelle Milnes sticks over the stablemate Big Sue a good push. Cheval Saint should appreciate the class drop here after coming across from Victorian racing at the C.Maher stable to join the powerful Michael Hickmott team. Given 6 months to find his feet here and draws for a bold showing fresh. The Guava caught the eye from well back last start after drawing poorly. Has a much better barrier here to settle closer and has a great record over this track/distance. Big Sue is racing in great heart with a win and a an OK fourth on a tricky day last time out. Draws nicely here and the Crowther/Dodson combo have a great record together.

2. Beautiful Jewel
7. Alainge
4. Murmullo
3. Hot Strut

Betting Strategy

No bet race. Beautiful Jewel returns from a spell and finished last prep competing in the Group 3 and Group 1 staying events for fillies and didn’t disgrace herself with a couple of those runs being unlucky. Is probably looking for further in time but she draws well here and stayers usually go well fresh. Alainge would be a big hope in this if she can jumped with them. Has bungled the start a coupe of times of late but rockets home at the finish. Is racing in career best form since joining the Garret Lynch stable. Murmullo is coming off a MDN win but did it with ease when leading and booting away to be s stylish 2.8L winner. 1400m suits now and will take some running down. Hot Strut led them up and kicked for a very good victory over this track/distance. Up slightly in weight but if the horse can stay out of a speed battle with Murmullo then she is a genuine winning chance again.

7. Super Alana
1. Winning Revolution
2. Zanthron
12. Thunder Shoc

Betting Strategy

Super Alana profiles well here getting back to the tight turning Parks track where she was a winner over this track/distance two back. Was lleft a bit exposed on the wider surfaces of Murray Bridge last start but did stick on well for 3rd. Todd Pannell sticks the ride here and she should make her own luck up near the speed. Winning Revolution is hard to catch but does draw nicely here with a 3kg claim. If Brooke King can stay close enough to them on the turn then hes good enough to gun them down here late with the 3kg claim. Drops in grade. Zanthron started hard in the market last start and while the horse finished 2nd, was no match for the mud runner Lingani. Drops in grade here, nice claim and track/distance stats good. Thunder Shoc broke the MDN with an impressive all the way win here over this track/distance last time out. Up in grade but does look very progressive and a win would not surprise. Well weighted.

7. The Mansman
8. Tropical House (SCR)
13. High Garden
1. Flowerdale

Betting Strategy

No bet race. The Mansman let down nicely from well back last time for an eye-catching 1.9L 7th at Murray Bridge over the 1400m. Steps up to 1550m here where the horse has a decent enough record. Forever starts in the market so respect the S.P profile here. Tropical House was a dominant winner last start on the outer track when heavily backed. 3 wins from 7 career starts suggests this mare is progressive. Can win again. High Garden strips fitter for two runs back this prep but has fallen victim of wide runs in transit. She’s a 3rd up winner in the past and is another that will appreciate the distance rise. Flowerdale is a lightly raced mare coming across the border for the Hayes team. Good MDN winner two back then raced on speed without cover and was vulnerable late at Sandown. Forgive that, lightly raced horse that might have more upside.

1. Cafe Millenium
13. Splash Back
9. Running By
5. Great Maximus

Betting Strategy

BACK: 1. Cafe Millenium (WIN & PLACE) for 2 units

Cafe Millenium was very stiff at Flemington when held up at a crucial stage and rocketed home when it was all over for 5th. Fastest late splits. Draws really well here, this is easier and Melbourne jockey engaged. Splash Back went down as favourite in a Group 3 when probably wasn’t suited over 1200m. Gets to the pet trip of 1400m now and can bounce back. Deserves to be favourite. Running By is racing in great heart up in grade of late including a close 2nd at Flemington in a BM100. Excels over this 1400m trip and should be going close again. Great Maximus is 3/3 at the Parks circuit. Had two unlucky runs across the border at Flemington and Moonee Valley. Respect back in SA and obviously the bomb proof tracks stats.

8. Koratora
2. Nurys
6. Anotherhouse
16. Home Zone

Betting Strategy

No bet race to end the day. Koratora is looking for the hattrick after a couple of impressive wins when dominating up front at the mid-weekers. The Travis Doudle stable is on fire at the moment and this lightly raced mare might have some good upside. Nurys basically goes around every weekend but s a horse that is racing consistently. Natural backmarker that should get a fast tempo to suit here. Drops slightly in grade. Look for him late. Anotherhouse was a moral beaten two back before racing plain up in grade last start. Been given a 6 week freshen from that and now looks well placed back in grade with the 3kg claim. Can bounce back. Home Zone comes across for the Hayes team and was disappointing over the 1400m at Sandown. Back to the jump outs and the drop back to 1250m suits.

When you place a lay bet, you are betting on something not to happen. Let’s think about the Melbourne Cup again. Remember: there can only be one winner. But what about the others trailing behind them? If you place a lay bet in a “Win” market, you can celebrate if the runner tails off at the back of the field.

MORPHETTVILLE TIPS | RACECOURSE

Summary

Morphettville is South Australia’s premier racetrack, located on the outskirts of Adelaide’s city centre. The South Australian Jockey Club’s two racetracks host fixtures all year round, but its premium meetings fall in April and May during the Adelaide Racing Carnival. Our team of South Australian experts bring you their Morphettville race tips all year round, with an even sharper focus on the feature meetings over the winter months. Head to the Betfair Hub for the inside track on Morphettville racing.

Fast Facts

  • Morphettville was the first race club anywhere in the world to utilise a retractable winning post with hydraulics, which enables the SAJC to minimise the damage to both tracks by alternating the running of races.
  • The wetlands area in the middle of the racecourse, which covers 3.5 hectares and is used to irrigate both racetracks, was constructed in 2002 at a cost of $2.4 million.

Key Events

Morphettville hosts four Group 1 meetings during the Adelaide Racing Carnival, starting with the Australasian Oaks and culminating in The Goodwood. With the Robert Sangster Stakes and the South Australian Derby in between, our tipsters bring you their Morphettville best bets over four consecutive weeks of Group 1 action.

Track Profile

The course proper at Morphettville is a long, flat course with a circumference of 2,307 metres. The track has a width of 32 metres, with wide sweeping turns and a four per cent camber. The second track, commonly known locally as “The Parks”, was officially opened in June 2009. The track has a circumference of 2,100 metres and is 25 metres wide, with a five per cent camber on the turns. A chute running through the centre of the course between the 850 and 1,550-metre marks allows for 1250, 1300 and 1400-metre starts. With an intimate knowledge of how both tracks play, you can rely on Betfair’s experts for the best Morphettville tips.

History

The first race meeting on what is today known as Morphettville was conducted on 3 January, 1876. Since the closure of the racetracks at Victoria Park (2008) and Cheltenham Park (2009), race meetings in Adelaide have only been conducted at Morphettville.
