Essendon captain- Zach Merrett didn’t dominate the clearances or contested possession count as he normally does, but was still the most prolific Bomber with 27 disposals and made an impact with 5 inside 50s and 462 meters gained.

The Essendon upset was thanks to some of the smaller names of the club. Sam Durham was damaging with 21 disposals, winning a team high- 12 contested possessions, 6 clearances and kicking a goal. Meanwhile, Xavier Duursma played the best game for the red and black, kicking 2 goals from 20 disposals and taking 13 marks.

St Kilda wingman Brad Hill played a fantastic game with 33 disposals, game high- 805 meters gained, 13 marks, as well as 7 inside 50s, 2 goal assists and 1 goal.

Rowan Marshall dominated the ruck battle and had an impact around the ground with some absurd numbers, winning game highs with 16 clearances, 18 contested possessions and 10 inside 50s from his 28 disposals as well as 25 hitouts.

Matt Rowell was in and under as per usual with a game high- 15 contested possessions, but was damaging on the scoreboard with his 22 disposals, having 10 score involvements, 1 goal and 1 assist.

Ben King’s 4 goals were crucial to the Suns victory.

The Dockers fell agonisingly close for the second week running at Adelaide Oval. Caleb Serong dominated with ball in hand, picking up game highs for disposals (29), clearances (8), contested possessions (16) as well as 8 inside 50s.

Dan Houston impressed with 27 disposals, making a game high- 740 meters for the winning side.

Connor Rozee didn’t have as much impact as he did last week, but still enough to be in the mix for Brownlow votes, having 26 disposals, 8 inside 50s and team high- 7 score involvements.

Josh Treacy booted 3 consecutive goals in the match, and made his presence known around the ground with 16 disposals, 9 marks and 4 tackles.

Jake Waterman booted a career high- 6 goals as well as 18 disposals and 13 marks which would normally be good enough for 3 votes, but has stiff competition such was the performance through the Eagles midfield.

Elliot Yeo was back to his 2018-2019 best that saw him win back-to-back best and fairests, winning 27 disposals, game high- 19 contested possessions, 15 clearances, 13 score involvements and 2 goals.

Tim Kelly was damaging after a quiet game last week, having a game high- 29 disposals, 553 meters gained to go with his 8 clearances, and 2 goal assists.

No. 1 draft pick Harley Reid lived up to the hype in front of his home deck, winning 27 disposals, 7 clearances, 12 contested, 6 inside 50s and kicking a goal- a great stat line for any player let alone a 5th gamer.

Port Adelaide turned it on in front of their home crowd, with their star trio of young midsdoing most of the damage.

Reigning Best and Fairest- Zak Butters excited with 26 disposals with 12 of them contested, also laying 7 tackles and directly assisting in 3 goals.

The Swans had to work hard for a victory against the Wooden Spoon favourites West Coast, having to play all 4- quarters to pick up 4 points.

Isaac Heeney continued his terrific run of form that sees him as the Brownlow Medal favourite, collecting a team high- 26 disposals and 17 contested, filling the stats sheet with 2 goals, 4 assists, 7 clearances.

Heeney has competition with proven vote getter- Errol Gulden, who cut the Eagles open with his 25 disposals (22 of which were kicks), leading the match for meters gained with 719, having 7 clearances and kicking 2 goals.

West Coast Skipper- Liam Duggan was brilliant with 30 disposals, 12 marks and 698 meters gained in a game where the Eagles turned up and made for a competitive match.

Nick Daicos has finally cashed in with some Brownlow votes, with Collingwood registering their opening win of the season. Daicos’ form to start the season has been superb, but itsdifficult to poll in losses, especially when going in as favourite. His 30 disposals were a team high as were his 650 meters gained.

Lachie Neale couldn’t have done more in the Lions loss, with the reigning Brownlow medallist picking up 35 disposals, 10 clearances, 20 contested (all game highs) and kicking a goal.

Michael Walters was the spark the Dockers needed in attack to post a winning total. The former All-Australian had 21 disposals, kicked 2 goals, took 8 marks and was involved in an equal game high- 9 scores.

Zach Merrett was his typical self, picking up plenty of the ball and setting up play from clearances. The Bombers skipper had 30 disposals and a game high- 14 contested possessions and 7 clearances with 6 from the centre.

Former number 1 pick- Andrew McGrath was crucial to the Bombers victory, and stuffed the stat sheet with 30 disposals, 8 marks, 8 inside 50s (game high), 13 intercept possessions (game high) and goal.

Jack Steele was typically tough in the contest, winning 26 disposals (the most of any Saints midfielder), laid a game high- 11 tackles and had 6 clearances.

Rowan Marshall continued his fine form that almost secured himself an All-Australian nod last season, winning 24 disposals, a game high- 11 clearances, 16 contested, 7 inside 50s and 13 hitouts.

Ruck and midfield duo Luke Jackson and Caleb Serong were once again the two best performers in the Fremantle victory.

Luke Jackson is thriving as the number one ruckman, with a statline that resembles peak Max Gawn- 24 disposals, 21 hitouts, 7 clearances, 15 contested, 10 score involvements and 2 goals! At this stage, Jackson looks the All-Australian ruckman, with his follow up craft separating himself from the rest.

Reigning Best and Fairest- Caleb Serong led the Dockers for the key midfield categories with 35 disposals, 8 clearances, 15 contested and 11 score involvements.

The Kangaroos had a crack in the first half before their third quarter blow out, and Tom Powell was impressive throughout with 28 disposals, 8 clearances and 2 goals for the losing side.

Bayley Fritsch was the most potent forward with 5 goals from 13 disposals, cashing in with 2 late goals and taking advantage of the Demons frequency inside 50.

Without many standout players, Jack Viney and Max Gawn get the nod for the minor vote as proven vote getters who played solid games. Gawn had 17 disposals, 24 hitouts and 6 inside 50s, whilst Viney led the way with 15 contested possessions, 7 clearances from his 21 disposals.

The Hawks-Demon’s match was difficult to allocate votes due to lack of big performances, meanwhile the Swans-Bombers was even harder with a plethora of brilliant individual games.

Isaac Heeney may be the Swans best performers in 3/3 games this season. The former forward played with the same level of electricity in the midfield with 32 disposals, 8 clean clearances, 14 contested, 13 score involvements and a goal.

Tom Papley was threatening to take the game from Essendon all match and had one of his better games with 24 disposals, 10 marks, 11 contested and 4 goals!

Sydney generated an enormous amount of goals from the back half, thanks mostly to the speed and ball use of gun midfielders Chad Warner and Errol Gulden who made it look like a coast to coast training drill. The Chad had 28 disposals, team high- 519 meters gained, game high- 14 score involvements and 2 late goals. Errol cut the Bombers up with 24 disposals, 6 clearances, team high- 6 inside 50s, 4 goal assists and 2 goals.

Zach Merrett was stiff not to poll with 32 disposals and 2 goals, however the 30 point loss will hurt his chances.

Bont has stiff competition from Cody Weightman who booted 6 goals. 6 is usually enough to secure the 3, however, previous bags from Weightman haven’t correlated with big votes from the umpires, with 3 career votes- including bags of 6, 5, 5, 4 and 4.

Tim English impressed in the ruck with a well rounded match, including 15 disposals, 8 tackles, 6 marks, 25 hitouts and a game high 112 Fantasy Points.

Ollie Wines didn’t have a stack of the footy with only 26, but was the leader on the ground for clearances (10) and equal leader for contested possessions (14).

Young prodigy Max Holmes was important to the Cats win with 23 disposals, 10 marks and a game high- 686 meters gained.

Matt Rowell followed on from his dominant opening round performance, with 29 disposals, 10 tackles, 9 clearances, game high- 20 contested possessions and a goal.

Skipper-Touk Miller looked in fine form with 29 disposals, 19 contested and a game high- 10 clearances.

Caleb Serong had the individual performance of the round with 46 disposals, 21 contested possessions and 10 clearances in the Dockers upset over last season’s Grand Finalist Brisbane. If Fremantle can continue winning and are a top-8 chance, Serong will be taking majority of the Brownlow votes this season.

Luke Jackson impressed with his ruck-forward craft, involved through the middle with 18 disposals and 30 hitouts as well as contributing with 2 goals.

Luke Ryan was the distributor down back, making a game high- 817 meters gained from his 33 disposals and taking 10 marks.

Andrew Brayshaw was Serong’s support act through the middle with 32 disposals, 8 marks, 6 clearances and 2 goal assists.

Brodie Grundy’s debut in the red and white couldn’t have gone any better, coming out victorious against his old skipper- Max Gawn. Dominating around the ground, Grundy finished with 23 disposals, 9 clearances and 33 hitouts in a close to best on ground performance. Nice of Melbourne and Collingwood to pay some of his wage!

A positional move that has been on the cards for years, Isaac Heeney was unleashed as a full-time midfielder with brilliant results. The typically high-flying forward was the best midfielder for the Swans, winning a game high- 13 clearances and 18 contested possessions in greasy conditions. The move up the ground didn’t hinder his forward half impact, with 12 of his 26 disposals being score involvements including kicking a goal.

Chad Warner was quiet early, but was almost the difference in the final term- with 11 disposals and an important goal. Finished with a solid 26 disposals and game high- 12 inside 50s.

Melbourne tough nut- Jack Viney kept the Demons in the match with 30 disposals, 14 contested, 7 clearances and 2 goals.

In what will be one of the best games of the season, it will be difficult to determine who gets the nod from the umpires with low disposal numbers across the board. Charlie Curnow was crucial to inspiring the Blues after their 46-point deficit to eventually winning by a point. The back-to-back Coleman Medallist booted a game high 4 goals during Carlton’s comeback.

Adam Cerra and George Hewett were impacting through the midfield, with Hewett leading all players for disposals with 27 and Cerra leading his teammates for contested possessions (14) and clearances (7).

Harry McKay was clunking them well, with 4 of his 7 marks being contested. The much maligned forward kicked 3 goals including the match winning goal, as well as leading all Blues for score involvements with 8.

Matt Rowell was tough and contested from start to finish as the Suns registered their first win under Damien Harwick. The former no.1 pick led the match for disposals (33), contested possessions (26) and a herculean 20 clearances- the second player to win 20+ clearances since the stat was counted!

Ben King was effective in front of the sticks, with 5 of his 10 disposals finishing as goals.

Noah Anderson and Touk Miller was important on-the-ball and will be strong chances for the minor votes. Anderson picked up where he left off with 25 disposals, 13 contested and 8 clearances whilst Miller finished with 28 disposals (second most behind Rowell) and 8 score involvements.

Forward line pairing Jesse Hogan and Callum Brown stretched out the Collingwood defence, with the duo booting 9 of the Giants 18 goals.

Callum Brown had his best career game to date, kicking a game high- 5 goals. Meanwhile, Jesse Hogan kicked 4 goals and did plenty of work marking the ball up the ground- taking 7 marks and involved in 9 scores (equal second most on the ground).

Tom Green lived up to the preseason hype as a potential Brownlow front runner, winning 30 disposals, 11 contested (equal team high), 9 clearances (team high), 9 score involvements and a goal.

The orange tsunami lives on, with Josh Kelly, Lachie Whitfield and Stephen Conilglio all playing big games and stiff not to be included.

No fears for any Nick Daicos backers, with the preseason Brownlow favourite still going about his business as one of the best players in the league- 34 touches, 16 contested, 10 clearances and a goal, if the Pies win its another 3 votes for the young star.
