Who is Jaycin Campbell?
Jaycin Campbell has become synonymous with Betfair over recent times, largely to do with his extraordinary ability to lay runners successfully.
Like many of Betfair’s experts, his background in tipping and punting is a unique one, but through a canny eye, and a strong understanding of how to read form, he brings a valuable skillset to the table.
“I’ve been working with Betfair for the past 18 months,” Campbell said.
“Through owning Greyhounds, as a syndicate manager I have to do a lot of previews for owners ahead of a race.”
“Through doing this I discovered a real passion and interest in doing the greyhound form.” He added.
Campbell’s background was always in racing, but of the Thoroughbred kind, and that set a good grounding for the perhaps more consistent nature of Greyhound racing, with field sizes and race patterns throwing up less variables.
“Coming from a horse racing background I found this a lot easier. There are a lot less variables and I’ve stuck with it for the last couple of years and I’m going pretty well.”
Campbell’s early tutors came in that Thoroughbred space, but his position as syndicate manager got him close to Greyhound trainers, and helped build his knowledge base.
“Mentors early days were Brad Davidson in the horse racing space. He’s helped me a lot.
“In terms of the Greyhounds though I’m mostly self-taught. I did lean on quite a few greyhound trainers that I know and have worked with as well.
“But I’m largely self-taught, through making errors and learning from them.
“I keep grinding away, and you get to understand where the potholes are in greyhound racing and form and from there I’ve been able to understand not so much how to win, but how not to lose,” he added.
WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BETFAIR?
“The best thing about Betfair for me has been the lay betting side of things. I’ve really enjoyed being able to add that tool to my repertoire,” Jaycin said.
“I think I’ve got a pretty good handle on laying Greyhounds. It’s a lot easier to find a greyhound who won’t win, rather than the one who will.”
“Most Greyhound races give you a team of seven dogs that you need to beat that one runner,” he added.
WHAT GOES INTO LAYING A DOG?
“I will usually look for a greyhound that has been overvalued coming into this race based off their last start,” he said.
“Greyhounds who might run a fast time when they’ve landed certain conditions to do so, but they might not get that next time.”
WHY IS BETFAIR IMPORTANT?
“I think Betfair is extremely important to the current wagering landscape. We’ve seen over the last couple of years the rise of hundreds of online bookmakers. I’d call them marketing arms rather than bookmakers. They don’t really have an opinion, they just copy Betfair,” Jaycin stated.
“Betfair gives you the chance to bet late and ride the market which is crucial,” he concluded.
