Over the next few weeks we will see new NRL and AFL seasons get underway, plus the Autumn Racing Carnival will bring lots more opportunities to make money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The start of any new season is when bookies are at their most generous. By offering great promos for the first few weeks they hope to attract recreational punters who will then keep betting with them for the entire season. For matched bettors, this makes it an ideal time to rack up some profits.<\/span><\/p>\n\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n    \n    \n    \n                <div class=\"education-content__row my-3\">\n        <div class=\"container reduced-width relative\">\n          <h2 class=\"font-bold font-montserrat text-xl lg:text-[26px] text-bf-yellow text-center md:text-left uppercase\">What to Expect from NRL<\/h2>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n    \n    \n    \n    \n          \n          <div class=\"education-content__row my-3\">\n        <div class=\"container reduced-width\">\n          <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Most bookies haven\u2019t announced their promos yet but, based on our experience of previous seasons, we can take a pretty good guess at what they will offer. They can be broken down into four categories:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Conditional Refunds<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This type of promo offers you money back (usually as a bonus bet but sometimes as cash) if your bet loses but some other condition is met. Some examples of those conditions would be:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your team lead at half-time\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They lost by 6 points or less<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They scored the first try<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assuming that you take good odds, each of these promos usually has an expected value of between $2 and $5.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To maximise the value of an individual promo it is usually best to bet on the underdog (as they are more likely to lose). You might also want to skip matches with very strong favourites as it is less likely to trigger the promo.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To maximise your overall value you can dutch these promos against each other. For example, if a bookie offers $2 on a team that can be laid for $1.50 on Betfair you can lock-in some risk-free cash. This is done by backing at the high odds on the bookie and then laying at the lower odds on Betfair. This can result in a double payout for anyone who has backed them at a bookie with an early payout promo and then laid them at Betfair.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Bet365 is the biggest bookie when it comes to early payouts, but their terms require your team to go 16 points ahead. We expect that some other bookies will offer better terms for at least the first month of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Multis<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These promos, which usually require your multi or SGM to lose by only one leg, are technically just another type of conditional refund offer. We\u2019re adding them in a different category due to the sheer volume of them though.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the introduction of SGMs a few years ago they have been the go-to promo for bookies on most sports. You can expect at least half a dozen different bookies to be offering them on every game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SGM promos which require you to place a 3-leg multi, and give you a bonus bet if one leg loses, offer a huge amount of value. Unfortunately, they cannot be laid so they come with a lot of variance (i.e. you can go on long winning or losing streaks). We only recommend them for people with large bankrolls who are comfortable with the risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is worth noting that not all SGM promos are equal. Once the promo terms change from 3-leg to 4-leg, or the minimum odds climb from 2.00 to 3.00, the amount of value drops off significantly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For traditional multi promos (i.e. where each leg is on a different game), there are more options to reduce variance.
