CANTERBURY EXPERT RACING TIPS<\/h2>\n
\n

The Canterbury Park Racecourse is rich in history, beginning in 1852 at the property of Cornelius Proud, who built a racetrack on his existing land and began holding races for the locals. In 1871 Frederick Clissold and Thomas Austin Davis held a race meeting on land leased by Davis within the vicinity of Prouds racecourse. In 1884 an official racecourse was constructed on the leased land by Frederick Clissold and Thomas Austin Davis comprising a 700 person grandstand and a recreational park. The first official race meeting at the new Canterbury Park Race Club was held on 19 January 1884, with an approximate attendance of 3000 people. From there the track only grew in popularity, so much so that construction on a train line began in 1892 and was completed in 1895 to make it more accessible for patrons, trainers, horses and jockeys.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Today, Canterbury Park Racecourse hosts purely midweek and night race meets (as Randwick is the host of all the feature races in Sydney) and is still a popular racing venue for racing enthusiasts and the like. The STC also held their first race meeting in January of 1945, and were the sole owners of the race club until they merged with the Australian Jockey Club in 2011, becoming the Australian Turf Club (ATC).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
