Shortlist – Saturday 17th February 2018 – Ascot

Ascot Schools Art Competition Novices’ Hurdle (2) 2m3f58y – 12:15am

Timeform Ratings of Previous Winners: 162 168 150 151 154 (Avg 157)

Betting Forecast

$3 Captain Cattistock, $3.5 Dame de Compagnie, $4 Count Meribel, $13 Point of Principle, $15 Warthog

Analyst’s Verdict

Captain Cattistock has a progressive profile and he looks up to completing the hat-trick. Dame de Compagnie is well worth another chance given the positive impression she created on her British debut at Uttoxeter in November, while Count Meribel has to be respected on form.

Sodexo Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (1) 2m7f180y – 12:50am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 167 173 161 164 158 (Avg 165)

Betting Forecast

$2.25 Black Corton, $3.25 Ms Parfois, $4 Mount Mews, $29 Crystal Lad

Analyst’s Verdict

Black Corton is having a terrific season and his trainer looks to have found him another good opportunity to add to his tally. Ms Parfois and Mount News are both promising.

Keltbray Swinley Chase (Limited Handicap) (Listed) (1) 2m7f180y – 1:25am

Betting Forecast

$3.5 Gold Present, $5 Another Venture, $7.5 Holly Bush Henry, $7.5 Vieux Lion Rouge, $9 Tenor Nivernais, $12 Minella Daddy, $13 Regal Encore

Analyst’s Verdict

Gold Present’s latest win over C&D in December looks strong form now given the subsequent exploits of the runner-up and Nicky Henderson’s charge may be up to defying top weight. Another Venture is a chaser on the upgrade and is feared most ahead of the in-form Holly Bush Henry.

Ascot Spring Garden Show Handicap Hurdle (2) 2m3f58y – 2:00am

Betting Forecast

$4.5 Dieg Man, $5.5 Fixe Le Kap, $6 Kildisart, $7 Stowaway Magic, $8.5 Le Patriote, $12 Friday Night Light, $17 Court Minstrel, $29 Vivas, $34 Solstice Star

Analyst’s Verdict

Dieg Man hasn’t been fully extended to remain unbeaten for his new connections, and though this clearly asks for more back in a handicap, he could well be up to the task. The Nicky Henderson trained pair Fixe Le Kap and Stowaway Magic switch from fences and both figure on tempting marks, so are feared most, though Kildisart has to be respected, too.

Betfair Ascot Chase (Grade 1) (1) 2m5f8y – 2:35am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 184 188 178 178 182 (Avg 182)

Betting Forecast

$3.25 Top Notch, $3.75 Waiting Patiently, $4.5 Coney Island, $10 Frodon, $11 Cue Card, $29 Speredek, $101 Traffic Fluide

Analyst’s Verdict

Top Notch could still be getting better judged on the manner of his Grade 2 successes this winter and can extend his winning run back up at the highest level. Waiting Patiently confirmed he’s one of the most exciting second-season chasers around at Kempton and is unlikely to give up his unbeaten chase record without a fight, while Coney Island is another who has the potential to go to the top.

racinguk.com/clubdays Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) (3) 2m7f118y – 3:10am

Betting Forecast

$5.5 Pop Rockstar, $7.5 Hatchet Jack, $7.5 Malapie, $9 Ballyheigue Bay, $11 Buckle Street, $11 Laugharne, $17 Clondaw Bisto, $17 Mon Palois, $19 Skewiff, $19 Templeross, $23 Three Star General, $29 Kayf Moss

Analyst’s Verdict

Pop Rockstar was much improved when notching a pair of quick wins in December and is taken to pick up where he left off after a short break. Laugharne is interesting on his first run for Tim Vaughan, particularly if the market speaks in his favour. Hatchet Jack and Buckle Street also make the shortlist.

Millgate Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat (4) 1m7f152y – 3:45am

Timeform Ratings of Previous Winners: – – – 121 111

Betting Forecast

$2.88 Lust For Glory, $6.5 My Lady Grey, $7 Buildmeupbuttercup, $8.5 Kayf Storm, $11 Dancecraft, $21 Pomme de Nuit, $21 Rosy World, $21 Scarlet Couture, $51 The Imitation Game

Analyst’s Verdict

Lust For Glory was purchased for £240,000 following a winning start between the flags in October, and representing a top yard, she ought to be a major factor at this level. Buildmeupbuttercup sets a solid if unspectacular standard, while My Lady Grey and Kayf Storm are perhaps the pick of the newcomers.
