Shortlist: Royal Ascot 2017 Day 5, Saturday 24th June 2017

Chesham Stakes (Listed) (1) 7f 11:30pm

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 112 121 118 119 110 (Avg 116)

Betting Forecast

$2.5 September, $8.5 Masar, $9 Nyaleti, $10 Westerland, $17 Hey Gaman, $26 Optimum Time, $34 Gold Town, Match Maker, Elysium Dream, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Aidan O’Brien often targets this with a good one and September, the only Ballydoyle juvenile to win on debut so far this season, and impressively so to boot, ticks all the right boxes. Masar created a fine impression at Goodwood and has scope for plenty of improvement also, while Leicester 1-2 Westerland and Hey Gaman are closely matched again and make some appeal for the places.

Wolferton Handicap (Listed) (1) 1m1f212y 12:05am

Betting Forecast

$5 Khairaat, $7.5 Kidmenever, $10 Central Square, $12 Elbereth, $13 Pacify, $15 Mythical Madness, $17 Dragon Mall, $21 Muntazah, Snoano, $23 Scarlet Dragon, $26 Restorer, Ayrad, $29 Tumbaga, $34 Majeed, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Central Square shaped with plenty of encouragement when third on his reappearance over 9f at Newmarket. Roger Varian’s charge will be sharper now and, with the step back up in trip and refitting of blinkers both positive factors, he’s an appealing value alternative to likely favourite Khairaat. Kidmenever is also high on the shortlist, while Muntazah, Pacify and Restorer are each-way players.

Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) (1) 1m3f211y 12:40am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 140 136 137 136 137 (Avg 137)

Betting Forecast

$3.25 Dartmouth, $7.5 Idaho, $8 Wings of Desire, $15 Muntahaa, $17 Prize Money, My Dream Boat, Across The Stars, $19 Second Step, Western Hymn, $21 Dal Harraild, $29 Barsanti, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Idaho made the frame in the English and Irish Derby before taking the Great Voltigeur at York last season, and looks set for a fruitful 4-y-o campaign judged on his pleasing return in the Coronation Cup. He makes plenty of appeal at likely odds. Last year’s victor Dartmouth looks sure to put up a bold defence of his crown, whilst Wings of Desire is an intriguing contender on his return to action.

Diamond Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) (1) 6f 1:20am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 138 138 137 132 135 (Avg 136)

Betting Forecast

$4.5 Limato,$ 7 The Tin Man, $9 Tasleet, $10 Magical Memory, $15 Librisa Breeze, $17 The Right Man, $23 Suedois, Growl, $26 Long On Value, Dancing Star, $29 Aclaim, Kachy, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Limato’s Prix de la Foret success last autumn is the best piece of form on offer, and with a strongly-run 6f on quick ground probably his ideal conditions, this likeable 5-y-o has to be the call. It would come as no surprise were The Tin Man to emerge as the best of those who raced in the Duke of York last month, while Suedois could be a lively outsider sporting a visor for the first time.

Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (2) 6f 2:00am

Betting Forecast

$9 Outback Traveller, $10 Projection, $15 Raucous, $17 Edward Lewis, $21 Danzeno, Amazour, $23 Eastern Impact, Muntadab, $26 Buckstay, Normandy Barriere, $29 Duke of Firenze, $34 Harry Hurricane, Boom The Groom, G Force, Steady Pace, Lancelot du Lac, First Selection, Certificate, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Danzeno was third in a Group 1 when last seen over C&D in autumn 2015 and was still capable of smart form on occasions last year. His York return was presumably designed to put him spot on for this and he might be worth chancing off what could be a lenient mark. Projection, Edward Lewis, last year’s winner Outback Traveller and Raucous, who has blinkers on for the first time, head the dangers.

Queen Alexandra Stakes (Conditions) (2) 2m5f143y 2:35am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 117 110 124 117 116 (Avg 117)

Betting Forecast

$4.5 Thomas Hobson, $8 Qewy, $10 Us Army Ranger, $11 Motherland, $12 Oriental Fox, Winning Story, $13 Fun Mac, $15 Montaly, $23 Vent de Force, $26 First Mohican, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Thomas Hobson couldn’t have been more impressive when landing Tuesday’s Ascot Stakes over slightly shorter, rapidly cutting through the field and bounding clear in the style of a fresh horse. He looks sure to go close if backing up quickly, with Oriental Fox, Qewy, who goes well fresh, and Montaly heading the dangers.
