Shortlist: Royal Ascot 2017 Day 2, Wednesday 21st June 2017

Jersey Stakes (Group 3) (1) 7f 11:30pm

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 127 131 129 128 131 (Avg 129)

Betting Forecast

$5.5 Le Brivido, $6 Dream Castle, $8.5 Daban, $13 Whitecliffsofdover, $17 Winning Ways, $21 Taamol, $23 Solomon’s Bay, Chessman, $26 Top Score, Escobar, Parfait, $29 Beat The Bank, Mubtasim, Glastonbury Song, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Le Brivido was much improved and showed very smart form when going close in the French 2000 Guineas last month. That form has been boosted since by the winner and he gets the nod with further improvement expected. Dream Castle remains one to be interested in having not been seen to best effect in the Guineas, while Whitecliffsofdover and Daban are a couple of others entitled to respect.

Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) (1) 5f 12:05am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 123 124 120 130 141 (Avg 128)

Betting Forecast

$3 Happy Like A Fool, $7.5 Heartache, $15 Neola, Chica La Habana, $17 Out of The Flames, $19 Mrs Gallagher, Treasuring, $21 Formidable Kitt, $29 Mamba Noire, $34 Emilia James, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Wesley Ward chases his fourth success in the Queen Mary (including the last 2 renewals) and Happy Like A Fool ticks all the right boxes following her demolition job at Keeneland in April. It will be fascinating to see whether the home contingent can lay a glove on her, with Heartache (debut win backed up by the clock) and C&D scorer Mrs Gallagher probably the main threats.

Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2) (1) 1m 12:40am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 132 128 134 133 133 (Avg 132)

Betting Forecast

$3.5 Laugh Aloud, $5 Qemah, $7 Usherette, $11 Smart Call, $13 Mix And Mingle, $15 Greta G, $34 Turret Rocks, Opal Tiara, Pirouette, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

A strong renewal of this Group 2. Last year’s Coronation winner Qemah had an excuse when beaten by the reopposing Mix And Mingle on her Lingfield return and is selected to bounce back to her best and come good at this meeting again. The Godolphin-owned pair Laugh Aloud and Usherette, who took this 12 months ago, could give her most to do.

Prince of Wales’s Stakes (Group 1) (1) 1m1f212y 1:20am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 142 142 145 141 138 (Avg 142)

Betting Forecast

$4 Jack Hobbs, Highland Reel, $5 Ulysses, $9 Decorated Knight, $13 Mekhtaal, $17 Queen’s Trust, $26 Scottish, $34 Johannes Vermeer

Analyst’s Verdict

Ulysses was only fourth behind Highland Reel at the Breeders’ Cup in 2016 but looked far more the finished article when making a successful reappearance in a Group 3 at Sandown in April, and remains with potential after just 8 starts. High-class pair Highland Reel and Jack Hobbs are also big players despite this trip being short of their optimum.

Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) (2) 1m 2:00am

Betting Forecast

$11 George William, $12 Fastnet Tempest, $13 Banksea, El Vip, $15 Abe Lincoln, $19 G K Chesterton, $21 Ballet Concerto, $26 Remarkable, Yuften, $29 Blair House, Tabarrak, $34 Zhui Feng, Early Morning, Gm Hopkins, Hors de Combat, Bossy Guest, Castle Harbour, Another Touch, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

George William remains with potential and may have beaten Fastnet Tempest in the Victoria Cup last time with more luck in running. Up just 3 lb, a big run is on the cards, and he tops the shortlist ahead of his old rival, who was impressive when winning again at Chester. Abe Lincoln, the subject of a big market move, has to be respected along with Luca Cumani’s pair Banksea and El Vip.

Sandringham Handicap (Listed) (1) 1m 2:35am

Betting Forecast

$11 Gymnaste, $12 On Her Toes, $13 Con Te Partiro, $15 Queen of Time, Rain Goddess, Really Special, $17 Sibilance, Bean Feasa, $19 Drumfad Bay, $21 Prosper, Grecian Light, $23 Present Tense, $26 Cheval Blanche, $29 Dancing Breeze, Salamah, $34 Tisbutadream, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Sitting atop a shortlist of several unexposed types is Gymnaste, who didn’t get the breaks at Kempton last time and she possesses plenty of potential. The fellow Cheveley Park-owned On Her Toes rates a big danger having progressed with each start to date, while Queen of Time improved a chunk when making a successful handicap debut at Goodwood last month and almost certainly has more to offer.
