Shortlist: Aintree, Friday April 7 2017 – Grand National Day 2

Alder Hey Children’s Charity Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) (1) 2½m 10:40pm

Top Rated & Flags

Betting Forecast

$8.5 Thomas Campbell, $11 North Hill Harvey, $12 Rather Be, Dream Berry, $13 Dashing Oscar, $15 Geordie des Champs, Ice Cold Soul, $19 Runswick Royal, $21 Hawk High, $26 Sky Khan, Sumkindofking, $29 Byron Flyer, Allee Bleue, $34 Clondaw Kaempfer, Nautical Nitwit, Mad Jack Mytton, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Thomas Campbell really caught the eye trying this trip for the first time when fifth in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham last time, powering home from an unpromising position in the style of one that’s comfortably ahead of his mark, so he’s taken to prove that point in a typically wellcontested renewal of this race. Dream Berry and sole Irish-trained participant Ice Cold Soul also warrant respect.

Crabbie’s Top Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (1) 2m103y 11:20pm

Betting Forecast

$3.5 River Wylde, $3.7 Moon Racer, $4 Mount Mews, $13 High Secret, $15 The Unit, $29 Pingshou, Chti Balko, $67 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

River Wylde took his form up another notch when third in the Supreme and sets a good standard for the rest to aim at if he can reproduce that now. The Grade 2 which Mount Mews won at Kelso last time did rather fall apart but he was still impressive in the way he went about things, while The Unit has progressed well of late and should be up to making his presence felt in this higher grade.

Betway Mildmay Novices’ Chase (Grade 1) (1) 3m210y 11:50pm

Betting Forecast

$1.4 Might Bite, $4.5 Whisper, $26 Marinero, $29 Virgilio, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Might Bite evidently has the odd quirk, but he jumped and galloped his rivals ragged in the RSA until nearly throwing it all away after the last, and will be very hard to peg back if he can keep his mind on the job for the duration. Stablemate Whisper was the one who very nearly profited from his waywardness at Cheltenham and he can follow him home again.

JLT Melling Chase (Grade 1) (1) 2m3f200y 12:25am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 179 203 174 191 176 (Avg 185)

Betting Forecast

$1.4 Sub Lieutenant, God’s Own, $5 Fox Norton, $9.5 Uxizandre, $13 Josses Hill, $15 Kylemore Lough, $21 Traffic Fluide, $26 Top Gamble, Royal Regatta

Analyst’s Verdict

Sub Lieutenant has found only the subsequent Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Sizing John and Un de Sceaux too good on his last 2 starts, and he would have arguably given the latter more of a scare if he’d have gone in pursuit sooner in the Ryanair last time, so he looks a big player on those form lines. Last year’s winner God’s Own and Colin Tizzard’s Fox Norton look the most likely dangers.

Randox Health Topham Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (1) 2m5f19y 1:05am

Betting Forecast

$11 Go Conquer, $12 As de Mee, $13 Seefood, $15 Bouvreuil, $17 Gold Present, Henryville, Thomas Brown, $19 Eastlake, Mr Diablo, $26 Third Intention, $29 Katnap, Irish Cavalier, $34 Clarcam, Ballykan, O O Seven, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Though he faded into fifth, Go Conquer ran an excellent trial for this race at Cheltenham, impressing with his bold round of jumping from the front, and he can come out on top. Seefood proved himself over these fences when second to As de Mee in the Grand Sefton in December and could have even more to offer, while Bouvreuil, O O Seven and last year’s winner Eastlake can’t be ignored.

Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (1) 3m149y 1:40am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 164 163 173 167 165 (Avg 166)

Betting Forecast

$3.2 Constantine Bay, $3.7 The Worlds End, $7.5 West Approach, $17 Beyond Conceit, Keeper Hill, $21 Moulin A Vent, $26 Get On The Yager, $29 Ballymalin, Debece, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Constantine Bay shaped very well in the Albert Bartlett when stopped in his tracks by the late fall of the reopposing The Worlds End, who held every chance at the time, and that pair may dominate here. The former is narrowly preferred to provide Nicky Henderson with a second winner in this race in the last 4 years. Keeper Hill may prove best of the rest.

Weatherbys Private Bank Standard Open National Hunt Flat (Grade 2) (1) 2m209y 2:15am

Timeform Rating of previous winners: 139 139 132 138 138 (Avg 137)

Betting Forecast

$5 Claimantakinforgan, $6 Black Op, $6.5 If The Cap Fits, $7 Western Ryder, $26 Run To Milan, Niceandeasy, $29 Larry, $34 Lalor, Clondaw Castle, $41 bar

Analyst’s Verdict

Black Op looked a really good prospect when accounting for reopposing Champion Bumper third Claimantakinforgan on his Doncaster debut in February and is taken to confirm his superiority over that rival. Western Ryder and If The Cap Fits are a couple of others with obvious claims, while Wincanton winner Run To Milan is one who could go well at bigger odds.
