Expecting a considerable advantage to horses that settle handy to the speed and in lanes 1-3 in the straight.

BEST BACK OF THE DAY: Race 8 | #10 Visinari

Dominant first-up winner over 1400m for the new stable in a strong overall figure. Would have taken further improvement off that performance and has the superior speed to lead on a track that will suit those on the pace.

BEST LAY OF THE DAY: Race 2 | #4 State Squad at < $4.50

Very even race and feel this gelding should be longer on the Exchange. Likes to get back in his races and with a moderate speed predicted, may find it tough to make up the required ground to be in the finish.

SANDOWN RACECOURSE (MELBOURNE RACING CLUB)

Sandown Racecourse (or Ladbrokes Park) has two racetracks, Hillside and Lakeside. Like Caulfield and Mornington, it is operated by the Melbourne Racing Club (MRC). Situated 25 kilometres south-east of the Melbourne CBD, the club hosts flat meetings all year round and jumps racing during the winter months, with Betfair bringing you premium Sandown tips 12 months of the year.

  • Sandown is the only metropolitan racecourse built in the 20th century, opening before a crowd of 52,000 spectators in June 1965.

KEY EVENTS

The extension of Victoria’s Spring Racing Carnival now sees Sandown host its feature race meeting, Zipping Classic Day, in late-November. Named in honour of champion racehorse Zipping, who won the race four years running for his owner Lloyd Williams, the Group 2 weight-for-age contest over 2400m carries a prize fund of $750,000. With the Group 2 Sandown Guineas and the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes and Sandown Stakes also held after the Melbourne Cup Carnival, November is the club’s time to shine. TRACK PROFILE

The Hillside course is renowned for being one of the fairest tracks in Victoria and indeed the whole of Australia, giving every horse its chance. There is sometimes a leader bias on the Lakeside course, meaning on-pace horses can have an advantage. Our renowned team of tipsters take this into account and deliver the best Sandown tips for both tracks across all 41 race meetings.

HISTORY

The original course was oval-shaped, measuring 1,892 metres in circumference and 30 metres wide, with sweeping cambered turns and an uphill home straight of 407 metres. In 2008, the MRC changed the name of the racecourse to Sportingbet Park. In 2015, it was renamed William Hill Park and in 2016 was changed again to Ladbrokes Park.

With the increase in the number of overseas horses competing in the Victorian Spring Racing Carnival in the 1990s, a quarantine facility was established at Sandown Racecourse in 1997. It housed international raiders for the next 13 years, before Racing Victoria opened the Werribee International Horse Centre in 2010.

Sandown also features a motor racing circuit on the outside of the racecourse, and a greyhound track (called Sandown Park) is located to the south-west on the opposite side of Lightwood Road. For all Sandown greyhound and thoroughbred racing tips, Betfair has you covered.
