RANDWICK RACING TIPS | WEDNESDAY 18 MAY 2022

Wednesday racing at Randwick on the Kensington track. The track is currently a heavy 8 however there is a clear forecast in the lead up to race day, so there is a strong chance the track improves into the soft range. The rail is +4m the entire.

BEST BACK OF THE DAY: Race 8 | #7 Deep Finesse 5 unit win

Won impressively last start when running right off the track late but still putting a 4.5 length margin on the second horse. The second horse has since come out to win easily. Note the key gear change of bubble cheeker near side first time should ensure the horse is easier to manoeuvre in the straight on this occasion.

BEST LAY OF THE DAY: Race 3 | #7 Toesonthenose to win 1 unit

Probably should have gone close to winning last start, however he has just been okay at the last couple of starts since the maiden win and this race is the toughest field he has faced to date.

Race 1 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

4. Cassimir
8. Toronomica
13. Spicy Hotpot
1. Baroque Road

Betting Strategy

No bets – at the current prices there is no edge so I am happy to stay out.

Race 2 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

9. Koshu (NZ)
11. Lucky Variety
5. Secret Revolution
6. Shadow Vampire

Betting Strategy

Looks a smart type who quickened sharply to win a short course trial. James McDonald rode in that trial and he has been committed to riding her at trackwork. This looks to be a good race so I hope we can get a better price closer to jump time.

BACK (WIN) – Koshu 3 units win

Race 3 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

1. Duke Of Gordon (NZ)
2. Podium
5. Terrameades
7. Toesonthenose (NZ)

Betting Strategy

Probably should have gone close to winning last start, however he has just been okay at the last couple of starts since the maiden win and this race is the toughest field he has faced to date.

LAY (WIN) – Toesonthenose to win 1 unit

Race 4 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

2. Azarmin
1. Mad As Zariz
4. Troll Peninsula (USA)
9. Glamour Fox

Betting Strategy

No bets – at the current prices there is no edge so I am happy to stay out.

Race 5 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

5. Sensationalisation
3. Niffler (NZ)
1. Ita
6. Sequana

Betting Strategy

Have to be forgiving of the last start performance when never comfortable on a very heavy track. The start prior she broke a track record at Doomben when winning by four lengths. If the track improves into the soft range I think she is good chance of bouncing back today.

BACK (WIN) – Sensationalisation 1 unit win

Race 6 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

6. Po Kare Kare (NZ)
11. Miss Maz
4. Glittery
3. Deep Romance

Betting Strategy

Has ran very well at two career starts including a dominant maiden win last start. She has been able to produce some of the meeting’s best closing sectionals at both starts to date and James McDonald going on first up is a good push that she should be running well today.

BACK (WIN) – Po Kare Kare 4 units win

Race 7 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

11. Green Flash
12. Norman
7. Comme Bella Fille (NZ)
4. Commander Bell

Race 8 | Randwick | Key Runners & Expert Tips

7. Deep Finesse
13. Sepoy Star
3. Washington Towers
6. Broken Hill

Betting Strategy

Won impressively last start when running right off the track late but still putting a 4.5 length margin on the second horse. The second horse has since come out to win easily. Note the key gear change of bubble cheeker near side first time should ensure the horse is easier to manoeuvre in the straight on this occasion.

BACK (WIN) – Deep Finesse 5 unit win

ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE

Royal Randwick is located in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and like Rosehill the racecourse is operated by the Australian Turf Club (ATC). Randwick hosts 20 time-honoured Group 1s each year but today its biggest raceday is The Everest, which at $15 million is the world’s richest turf race. For expert race tips and best bets on The Everest and every Randwick meeting, head to the Betfair Hub.

Fast Facts

  • Considered the headquarters of Sydney racing, Randwick is on designated public land and is leased to the ATC.
  • Randwick was given royal status in 1992, when Queen Elizabeth II paid a visit to officially open the Paddock Stand.
  • During his visit to Australia in 1970, Pope Paul VI held mass at Randwick. Some say racegoers have been seeking divine intervention ever since!
  • Several scenes in the Mission: Impossible franchise were filmed at Randwick.

Key Events

Over two days each April, Randwick hosts The Championships which offer more than $20 million in prizemoney. Featuring several Group 1s, including the Australian Derby, Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Sydney Cup and Doncaster Handicap, The Championships are the climax of Sydney’s autumn carnival. With comprehensive Randwick tips and a proven track record, our team of tipsters have you covered.

The feature race of Sydney’s spring carnival is The Everest, which was first run in 2017 and today is the richest turf race held anywhere in the world. The race attracts Australia’s best sprinters, and is the centrepiece of Randwick racing each spring.

Track Profile

The Rosehill track has a circumference of 2,224m, with the home straight measuring 410m. In its early days Randwick was referred to as the ‘Sandy Course’ due to the poor condition of the track, but today it is considered Sydney’s premier racecourse.

History

The site was first designated for use as a racecourse in January 1883, with a private raceday held there six months later. For 20 years between 1840 and 1860, the racecourse was only used as a training facility but racing resumed in May 1860 with a crowd of more than 6,000 in attendance. The ATC assumed control of Randwick in 2011, when the Australian Jockey Club and the Sydney Turf Club merged to form a new body.
