Fans of cricket are in for a bonanza in February with no less than FOUR test match series scheduled across the globe, plus multiple ODI’s and T20’s too. The smorgasbord includes the Second Test between India and England (Feb 2-6), Sri Lanka to host Afghanistan for a one off Test (Feb 2-6) and the First Test between New Zealand and South Africa (Feb 4-8). Meanwhile, Australia have a small break from the home test summer before traveling across the Tasman to take on New Zealand in the first of a two match series (Feb 29-March 4). That’s not all though- with India and England set to do battle in the second and third tests and Australia to host the West Indies for 3x ODI’s and 3x T20’s, how good! After a remarkable upset at the GABBA will the West Indies carry their good form into the shorter format? Can England capitalise on a raft of injuries to India and go 2-0 up in the series? Many questions will be answered in the month of February. Keep up to date with the latest odds and market moves on the Betfair Exchange!

February sees the resumption of Group One racing in Victoria and more importantly at Caulfield, which has had a long lay off due to renovations. Last year the CF Orr Stakes, Blue Diamond and Oakleigh Plate were all staged at Sandown so it’ll be a welcome return to The Heath to resume normal service. Mr Brightside heads antepost betting for the CF Orr at $2.60 on the Betfair Exchange, with Veight ($6.00) and Fangirl ($10.00) next in line. The CF Orr is the first Group One of the new year and as such many horses tackle the race first-up. It is often used as a platform for bigger targets later in the Autumn, so a horse who contests the race with fitness on its side (potentially Veight) may be an angle in for punters. Interest is always high in the 2 yo’s at this time of year and Blue Diamond Stakes market reflects that on the Betfair Exchange. With uncertainty surrounding which horses will make the trip south from Sydney, the market is wide open and gives punters an opportunity to go in search of value. Flemington takes centre stage on February 17th with the running of the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes. Named after Peter Moody’s champion mare, this race is run over 1000m down the straight and is known for its tight finishes in recent times. Star Kiwi mare Imperatriz is a short priced $2.20 favourite in early betting, while trainer Joe Pride has confirmed Private Eye, a winner down the Flemington straight, as a starter for this race also. The title race is heating up as Liverpool continue to impress at the top, with Manchester City and Arsenal hot on their heels. It is fair to say that these clubs have now established themselves as the only ones capable of winning the league, and this is reflected in the Betfair Exchange ‘Winner 2023/24’ market. Manchester City ($1.75), Liverpool ($3.45) and Arsenal ($9.80) are the only teams in single figures, with a huge gap to Tottenham ($34).

Fixtures such as Liverpool vs Chelsea (Feb 1), Arsenal vs Liverpool (Feb 5), Manchester City vs Chelsea (Feb 18) and Arsenal vs Newcastle (Feb 25) loom this month as the pivotal to final finishing positions come May. Betfair’s Premier League market offerings are extensive; including but not limited to ‘Top Goalscorer’, ‘Next Manager To Leave Position’, ‘PFA Player Of The Year’ and ‘Relegation’ so be sure to click onto the Exchange now for all the latest updates.

What an incredible start to the year we’ve had on the PGA Tour with the first four events of the year yielding four triple figure winners! Chris Kirk ($229), Grayson Murray ($1000), Nick Dunlap ($1000) and Frenchman Matthieu Pavon ($230) have bamboozled punters in recent weeks, sending Golf Twitter into overdrive! In the month of February there are three world class events scheduled with the Pebble Beach Pro-Am (Feb 1-4), Phoenix Open (Feb 8-11) and the Genesis Open (Feb 15-18) taking place. Golf punters will be hoping for some respite as the best players start to take their place in these fields after the Christmas/New Year break. Markets for the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf can be found on the Betfair Exchange, with previews available weekly on the Betfair Hub via our golf analyst Greg Burge and his data driven model.
