Racing Preview: Saturday 7th April

The weather forecast for Bendigo on Saturday looks magic. A top of 26 degrees is on the cards to go with True Rail and the surface a Good 3.

Bendigo R7 | Listed Golden Mile | 1600m Handicap | 4:10pm

Deep race as the betting suggests with Kiwia opening $6.50 favourite. No doubt about it’s return in the March stakes at Flemington it’s in for a good preparation. My fear is that its likely to want 2000-2400m to show its best and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it on a winter carnival path even picking up the Warrnambool Cup on the way through. Happy to oppose here and can see it easing in the market.

Seaburge returned to form in the same lead up race. His best ratings are at 1600m and looks very close to his top. Has a mid draw here with Jordan Childs replacing Corey Parish. Not sure there’s breakneck speed engaged for this event and he can sprint from the middle of the pack to get close at $14.

The other runner of interest was Rising Red. He looked totally unsuited fresh off an OK trial and at the top of the straight I was nervous that I hadn’t backed him in the March Stakes. Luckily his fitness gave out over the closing stages and he whacked away beaten only 3.1 lengths. Expect sharp improvement and a big watch on betting if he gains entry (being second emergency). $15 appears to be a big price for a horse of his class.

Big watch on import midterm for the Howley/Lloyd Williams team. Hardham another who can pull a run fresh.

Insider Suggests

LAY (WIN) – Kiwia for 4 units

BACK (WIN) – Seaburge for 0.5 units

BACK (WIN) – Rising Red for 0.5 units
