The forecast for Brisbane is fine and sunny. The rail is +2m with wind less of a factor this week I expect the track to favour horses in the first half of the field except for the distance races.

Doomben R8 | G1 Doomben Cup | 3:40pm

Looks a deep edition of the Doomben Cup with some class horses from down south going into the race wide of the traditional Hollindale Stakes lead up. Abbey Marie was huge in the Coolmore Stakes behind Alizee where she lacked clear galloping room in the home straight, she can win her swansong before she’s passed through the sales ring in a few week’s time.

Ambitious is worthy of a forgive from his Queen Elizabeth eight placing. He lost ¾ shoes in the run and was caught extremely wide. The setup was awful that day dropping back from 2400m to 2000m, love him here fresh off a month.

Satono Rasen trialled well before the All Aged Stakes when clearly underdone, he followed up with a sound performance second up in the Hollindale and despite a big SP last start I’ve marked him close to favourite with Ambitious expecting a big spike in performance off the back of a big finale last start.

No knock Life Less Ordinary, was dominant in the Wagga Cup and perhaps he’s turned the corner mentally (it’s taken a while!).

The false favourite appears to be Oregons Day who had the perfect setup and run in the Hollindale Stakes. She may be trapped on the fence in run and I’m surprised she’s come up $4.40 favourite in a Group 1 with strong males at their peak.

LAY – Oregon’s Day BSP for 5 units.
