2nd December

Gold Coast

Midweek to the Gold Coast this week. Can’t believe how much more competitive and interesting this Wednesday is compared to every week at Ipswich.

A lot of different formlines but we will be shopping for as much value as possible. I’d expect this track to race pretty fair with the rail in and hot weather all week. It won’t hurt to be somewhere up front when it dries out late in the day.

All said and done, it’s almost too even, the confidence isn’t high and not a lot jump out. Small bets looking for a value play.

Easy to make a case for 6-7 of them but feel KRAKATOA ERUPTION will lead them up and looking for those that can camp on the leader’s back. KING OF THE DESERT can muster and should land in that 2nd pair if Dittman is positive. He was racing in CL3s last prep and has had a quiet trial leading into this. He’s no star but should be in the firing line and gets his chance.

HOROWITZ another who can park in the right spot. Trial was good and he looks consistent enough. He doesn’t have the best turn of foot but he gets the right run and I am amazed he opened $27/$7.50. That was there for a while so hope we can get something in the 20s raceday on the Exchange as he’s still $15 after scratchings.

The best turn of foot is EMMA’S JET but from gate 2 I’m worried how far back she gets and what traffic she finds. If Cahill can find fresh air she can go right over the top.

There has always been a big rap on INDIAN DREAMER without him living up to it. There was a tip going around again last start but he has that bad get back pattern. He should get the tempo to suit this time and gets his chance. SIDEKISS and TEST OF WAR both come off handy sort of wins at this track last start.

PIEROPAN may simply be outclassed here but I really liked the first run for the new stable who can improve them sharply. Some of the southern runs were ok and might be able to sit a bit closer from the good gate. Also suited by the step up in trip.

Reckon he can run better than the $27 suggests. It was a low Ballina meeting last start but he had some of the best late splits of the day. Easy to make a case for a lot of others and a pretty even sort of race which is the theme of the day.
