23rd June

We head back to Doomben with the rail all the way out at 11m.

Fine weather, track will be in good condition and as always the maps are important for the sprint races, especially with the rail where it is. Being carnival time I thought there would be some standouts in a meeting like this but it’s very even and no great confidence.

STOCKED AND LOADED has had more than enough chances to win and has a pattern that concerns me. It’s one of those meeting’s though where you can find a knock on every horse. The fresh run was good when held up at the 200m and picking up late. They have to make some use of the gate and land midfield, they can’t spot them 6-7L here. Callow takes the ride and look for him to be semi-aggressive early.

STYLE SEEKER has only had the one run but it was more than a pass mark. The winner was off and gone on the corner and the way he picked up and chased was encouraging. Not sure where they get to from the gate, that’s a little query.

KAL EL looks a bigger track horse and may want further. In saying that, it was the best L200m on debut for the new stable and may just be suited up here. GEOSTORM is the leader, out of traffic and will look the winner. The last 100m is where the issue might be.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) — Stocked And Loaded for 1 unit

BACK (PLACE) — Kal El for 0.5 units

The issue we have at this time of the day is if the rail is a hot spot you get all kinds of craziness with everyone wanting to lead and completely overcooking it. It happens all the time. We just have to hope it’s raced fair.

RARI draws wide and has had just the one trial but the last prep was very good and the first couple of runs in the prep were the best couple. Does have tactical speed but may have to be used to cross these. He gets a 2kg claim and I’d expect him to run well if he has any luck at all. The fact he’s only won 1/17 is not ideal.

BRABHAM has now had the one prep with Sears and they should have a good read on the horse. He was a dominant maiden and CL1 winner last time in work and like the booking of Byrne. No official trial and the best guide with this stable is usually money on raceday, especially late so makes it a bit tough writing this early.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) — Brabham for 1.25 units

BACK (WIN) — Rari for 0.75 units
