Rail 8.5m

We head back to Doomben which is a track I really like and it is a drying track so should be a good surface. We come off a winning week thanks to I Dream Of Green last week but wish I had more confidence in this card.

The negative is the fact we have the rail 8.5m. It’s just not good for racing and punting as you really need to see a few races to see if there is a sever bias or not. Some days it will play mad fence and the next they can all swoop. Makes it hard doing this early.

Even sort of card and no great confidence.

Looks a skinny sort of race here. EXPRESS FANTASY and ZOUKINA look the main players and the market has it about right.

EXPRESS FANTASY has the better pattern and should race up on a slow tempo. Recent trial was good, wasn’t asked for much and good through the line. Handy sort of race she comes out of last prep and can be hard to catch.

Both ZOUKINA’s runs have been good and she’s been strong through the line. Hasn’t got great early speed but Cassidy hasn’t really pushed to hold a spot either. Any sort of decent ride and she should be extremely hard to hold out. The $2.40 opening price would be a bet.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Zoukina for 2 units

Five first starters add some queries.

THINK GLORY was in a race it would have just won at the GC last week. Worries me why they didn’t race there. TOOROOLOO was very good in a trial but was ordinary out of the gates so that’s a query.

SATINE was beaten by a potential star last start and beat the rest easy enough. The time in that race was very quick, even though she was beaten 6L her time was still good on the day. From a decent gate and with Fradd on she can be hard to beat and at $12 looks an e/w bet.

JELLISHOT comes out of a good Saturday race where she got the run of the race and was beaten 2.7L. Gets a good run again and this is easier. Don’t like the gate GOLDSCHLAGER at all but she comes out of a Listed race at just start number two. She was very good there and should be strong late.

Betting Strategy

BACK (EW) – Satine for 1 unit EW

Just another race where the one I’d like to be on has drawn poorly and the track bias (or not) will have a big part. LASHONI has the best turn of foot but likely to spot them a start. Like the booking of Stewart and it will take a good ride. She needs to be ridden for luck and saved for one short sharp sprint of about 200m.

SHE ZA BOSS has been good the last couple. Her chances also come down to whether Robbie gives her one of his good ones or not. TYCOON STREET got a good positive ride from Mallyon last start and run well without winning. He doesn’t ride here and feel her best chance would be to go forward again (if that’s how track is playing). SET THE BAR HIGH can run better than odds suggest also.

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Lashoni for 1 unit
