31 March

Doomben | Rail 6m

Doomben is the track we head to and it will be near a perfect surface with just a tiny chance of showers. This is a great punting track, it’s just a matter of getting your maps right. Not the best fields and just a couple of each-way bets today.

SAY HAYA looked really well placed last time out and got the job done at a good price in a CL6. Hard to jump off as the win was better than it looked. It was a day where a lot of horses were really knocking up on a testing track. She had to go at around the 800m mark and the effort to hang on late was strong. She has found her best form again and she will be the one flashing at them late.

GRAND ZOU is the X-factor. Took all before him last prep and just continued to win. Market will be a big guide on him fresh.

Vandyke brings SKINS and AMICHE. SKINS has won or placed in 5/5 and AMICHE has won or placed in 7/8. SKINS has accepted and not run a couple of times so far this prep. He looks to have really good upside and 1110m around Doomben looks ideal for him.

AMICHE just bangs herself up on speed and continues to find in her races. Many of her wins have been by big margins but a few of her losses have been at extremely short quotes.

Betting Strategy

BACK (EW) — Say Haya for 1.25 units each way

No idea what to do with ROMAN REPUBLIC. Vandyke is striking at 44% (since Feb 1st) but this horse comes here off a plain trial and 390+ days off. The positives are he was dominant at his only career start and Vandykes current run of winners.

I’d be keen on FRONT MONEY if it was 1050m-1110m. Just the 1200m fresh and the last 50m is a query. The Syd bm72 sort of form more than stacks up here and the recent trial for the new stable was good. Has gate speed and should race up on the speed. Hard to catch here.

STORMY ROCK also has the bm72 form down south and this looks easier. Has been well held lately but Nothdurft rides and looks well placed.

OURCONI was an excellent win last start in a CL1. Was wide and didn’t settle but still put them away in a few strides. Fradd should get a nice run in front of midfield with cover and this horse can keep improving.

Betting Strategy

BACK (EW) — Front Money for 0.5 units each way
