PAKENHAM | VICTORIAN RACING TIPS | THURSDAY 12 MAY 2022

Rail: +6m Entire | Track Condition: Soft6

Expecting an even track with all runners getting their chance dependent on individual race pace.

BEST BACK OF THE NIGHT: Race 1 | #3 Sheer Class

Looks perfectly placed to breakthrough staying at 1600m after a strong effort last start over the same trip. Gets a soft run outside of the lead and will prove very tough to run down.

BEST LAY OF THE NIGHT: Race 4 | #1 Alison Road at < $3.50

Strong field with a few in the market on debut or resuming over the 1200m. The John Sadler-trained gelding was only fair through the line on debut last start and will need luck early from a wide draw to find cover.

Race 1 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

3. Sheer Class
8. Nicstar
2. Rigoletto
4. And She Was

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Sheer Class

Looks perfectly placed to breakthrough staying at 1600m after a strong effort last start over the same trip. Gets a soft run outside of the lead and will prove very tough to run down.

Race 2 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

6. Yagoona
10. Gamegirl
4. New Jersey
12. My Girl Zarlie

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Yagoona

At peak fitness now having his fourth run this preparation and is suited getting out to 1400m. In a race that lacks early speed the gelding will lead and able to dictate the pace.

Race 3 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

3. Citizen
2. Celsius Star
10. Bahama
12. Word On The Street

Betting Strategy

Low confidence race to suggest a betting play with a very even field of lightly raced gallopers, interested to see how Citizen resumes as a gelding and watch for money late which will be the best indication of how he will perform.

Race 4 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections & Expert Tips

6. King Of Swing
7. Larry Of Arabia
1. Alison Road
9. Touch Of Patience

Race 5 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

8. Sharwin
3. Our Heidi
11. Pouvoir De Soie
9. Twiggy Pop

Betting Strategy

Low confidence race to suggest a back or lay play with not much splitting the top half of the market, other races appeal as betting propositions.

Race 6Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

1. Enuff He Said
11. Meltdown
5. Zoutellus
6. King Halston

Betting Strategy

BACK (WIN) – Enuff He Said

Won strongly two starts back leading throughout over 1400m before getting tested up in class over 1600m in the Vobis Guineas fading late. Will appreciate getting back to Class 1 level. In a race that lacks early tempo he can find the front and dictate the speed to suit.

Race 7Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

13. Black Bolt
2. Marcolt
3. Oriental Legend
5. Eclipse Solar

Betting Strategy

Very low confidence race with nothing between the top 6 on the exchange, happy to watch them go around over the 1400m.

Race 8 | Pakenham Racing Tips | Chris Camilleri’s Selections

1. Gate Crash
3. Helmiton
7. Yellowbrick Road
2. Captain Corelli

Betting Strategy

LAY (WIN) – Captain Corelli at < $7.00

Got given an easy lead last start and was able to sprint best late. Will not enjoy that sort of run here with plenty of speed engaged and expecting the gelding to drift severely late in betting.

PAKENHAM RACING CLUB

Pakenham Racecourse is located 70 kilometres south-east of the Melbourne CBD. As well as two tracks (turf and Polytrack), the racecourse also houses a world-class training facility used by some of Victoria’s leading stables, including Peter Moody and Phillip Stokes. Local trainers have a particularly good strike rate at their home track, and often feature in Betfair’s Pakenham tips.

Fast Facts

  • In  1966, Pakenham had the honour of hosting the first race meeting in Australia in which decimal currency was used.
  • One year later, Pakenham was one of the first clubs to trial steward patrol films, which are still used today.
  • Group 2 winner Gallic Chieftain broke the 2000m track record when he won in a time of 2.01.25 in December 2016.

Key Events

The Pakenham Cup, held each December, is the club’s major raceday. The Listed 2500m contest was won in 2021 by hometown hero King Magnus, trained locally by Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock. The feature race of the club’s jumps racing program is the Mosstrooper Steeplechase, whether it’s on the flat or over the fences head to the Betfair Hub for Pakenham best bets on each and every meeting.

Track Profile

The turf track (circumference 2,410m, width 25m) has a fibre reinforced sand profile with full subsurface drainage system. The home straight is 480m long, with a testing rise to the winning post (similar to Sandown). The course generally exhibits little bias and appears to perform well in wet and dry weather conditions, meaning punters can bet with confidence. Find Pakenham tips today on the Betfair Hub.

History

Pakenham Racing Club was first formed in 1875. From hosting once-a-year picnic meetings the club gradually grew in stature, with the Pakenham Cup first run in 1926. Today the club hosts several race meetings, with night racing on the turf track in summer and autumn and jumps racing during winter, as well as flat races on the all-weather synthetic surface. Betfair brings you the best Pakenham tips all year round.
