UK Racing – Cheltenham Festival
Starting with the highlight of the week, the Gold Cup, Willie Mullins’ top runner from his octet of Gold Cup entries, Vautour had a spike in his betting where he briefly traded at around odds of 14.00 due to rumours that he may run in the Ryanair Chase, however, these rumours were quashed by his owner Rich Ricci who confirmed that the Gold Cup is the only option.
Mick Channon’s 12-year-old Somersby has been quoted in todays’ Racing Post as being “…almost certain to go the for Champion (Chase)…” after finishing runner up for the last two years, this has seen his price come in from 180.00 to 70.00 for the big race.
There has been a move for another Mullins runner, in the JLT, Black Hercules has come in to 7.6 from 26.00 after his trainer was quoted as saying “…we’re seriously thinking about either the RSA or the JLT for him…it’s quite possible we might opt for the JLT”. This has resulted in a drift in the National Hunt Chase, where Black Hercules was favourite, out to 22.00 from 5.10.
A mover at bigger odds has been noticed in the Supreme Novice Hurdle, where David Pipe’s runner Moon Racer is trading at 25.00 having come in from 36.00 after pleasing his trainer when schooling last week under Tom Scudamore, and is believed to be in with a shout.
And finally, in the Foxhunters Pacha Du Polder‘s odds have come in to 17.00 from 35.00 since Victoria Pendleton’s win at Wincanton on Tuesday, and we await tomorrow’s decision as to whether or not she will get the ride on the day.
