THE TRIAL FILES
Moonee Valley – Friday 25th September
Rail +5, Good 4 (possible upgrade to Good 3)
The 955m are generally run at breakneck speed, allowing backmarkers into the race eliminating any bias.
BULLPIT will kick up from the inside draw but will need to work hard to hold the front.
IT’S POETS DAY (barrier 5), the Launceston trained CONCERETE JOHNNY (barrier 13), GOLD RORY (barrier 14) and JUST A BULLET (barrier 2) all have very good tactical speed making the first 400m frantic.
SANG CHOI BAO is the slingshot horse. He will drop out to the tail of the field early but will descend late suited by the strong tempo.
SANG CHOI BAO is a standout horse on the back of his recent Cranbourne trial (11/9). He drifted back to last pulling for more reign at the top of the straight. Once he shifted off the heels of RECALCULATE he extednded stylishly under his own steam. It was an outstanding pipe-opener for a race like this.
GOLD RORY trialled at Cranbourne (11/9) and was marginally quicker than SANG CHOI BAO in winning his heat by three lengths. He led them up and won the heat with relative ease. A leader, returned in great order of a 40 week layoff.
BULLPIT has been kept on the fresh side since a trial at Flemington in late August. He went toe-to-toe with sprinting superstar CHAUTAUQUA at the head of proceedings in that trial and stuck on gamely to the line – albeit being niggled at late.
IT’S POETS DAY won a barrier trial at Jerilderie by three lengths but vision of that is unavailable. She will be nuisance value to those up on speed, races well fresh but against this class of field she will be found wanting over the final 200m.
TUSCAN SLING – looked like a potential superstar with two emphatic wins at the tail end of 2014 and then resumed with a strong win at this track in February.
At two runs prior to a 25 week spell TUSCAN SLING was probably a victim of tempo. Ridden up on speed at MV she tended to over race early and then when out the back at Sandown she again wanted fight the rider. She gets the required strong tempo up front that will help her settle tonight but this is her biggest test to date against the boys and we can’t have her as short as what’s currently on offer.
SANG CHOI BAO – with speed on he will settle into a nice rhythm early and as the leaders are feeling the pinch late he will be reeling off winning closing sectionals. His trial indicates to us that he’s in career best form, looking perfectly placed her by trainer Jason Warren.
BULLPIT is the best of the on-pacers here. His recent trial against CHAUTAQUA was solid and the four weeks between then and this race will see him resume very ‘fresh’. The inside draw is no spoil but if the breaks fall his way he will be in the finish.
BACK – E/W – SANG CHOI BAO – We rate him a $3.50 favourite advising 1 unit WIN & 2.5 units the PLACE.
BACK – WIN – BULLPIT – We rate him slightly shorter than the current market, save on him with 0.5 unit WIN.
