Race Assessment and Confidence

Race Confidence: High

Rocket Commander is huge overs here and I’m backing her for a good result. She showed a return to form last start with a second in very strong rating Provincial race & she ticks a lot of boxes here – well drawn, top jockey, twice C/D winner and maps handy with no weight. Qadir should be ready to produce his best over >SUI trip but he will need some luck from the barrier. Back both as suggested above. Rationality looks the next best on a QBU whilst #’s13,3 & 2 all have winning claims.

Major Players

11. Rocket Commander: Talented & returned to form last start with very solid second in strong Balaklava BM80. Two time winner and C/D. Drawn well and top jockey on. Huge overs.

12. Qadir: Ready to fire after two runs back over unsuitable trips. Drawn awkwardly &and will need luck but talented and is a contender with even luck.

10. Rationality: Solid win first up last week and backs up quickly. This is much tougher but can race handy and take some running down on the limit weight.

13. Zebulon: Resuming from long spell with just one run since October 2014. Won a Cranbourne Barrier Trial recently and looked good but not an easy task here from barrier.

3. Dylanson: Not suited last start when dropped back sharply in trip. Won this race last year & form prior to his last start was very solid. In the mix on his best form.

Race Assessment and Confidence

Confidence: Medium

Howard Be Thy Name has been in work since October 2015 and is still in his first prep but is racing very well. He can stay and is the one they have to beat. Royal Rumble is an unknown at this trip but he has serious claims on his Stakes win at 1600m against older horses last month. Colonel Custer had excuses last start and it may pay to overlook that failure. Mail It In is a little query at 2020m but had little luck last start. War Legend looks to have some claims. Lay Patch Adams.

Major Players

2. Howard Be Thy Name: Very deep into first prep but Darren Weir trained and continues to race very well. Is the one to beat based on very solid win at Morphettville 1800m last start.

1. Royal Rumble: Class runner who has mixed distances with good results this prep but unknown above 1600m. Drawn to get soft run and has claims if distance OK.

7. Colonel Custer: Pulled up with respiratory issues last start and the run is probably best forgotten. Prior form solid & will get a good run third out. Respect.

3. Mail It In: Inconclusive as to his staying powers last start when had little luck from a bad barrier. Drawn poorly again but has claims if stays.

6. War Legend: Had a good run third out last start & probably higher in class but should get similar circumstances here. Not beaten far at Moonee Valley over 2040m the start prior. Chance.
