A mix of conditions exists in Munich, with the higher altitude meaning the ball moves through the air faster while the damper conditions make the courts heavier.
Michelsen’s got clean technique, but his movement is his biggest weakness right now, and it’s even more obvious on clay; he’s not used to playing on this surface.
The ability to slide and transfer your weight is crucial on clay, and it’s very difficult for players who haven’t grown up on the surface. Michelsen is still very much in the learning process.
Garin has won this event before and his form has improved in recent weeks. He was a semi-finalist in Estoril earlier this month, and he opened his campaign with a solid straight-set win against Koepfer.
Michelsen scraped past wildcard and World No. 437 Max Hans Reberg, and he was destroyed by Moutet in Monte Carlo last week. Garin should record a comfortable victory.
