SPEED MAP

Below average speed expected and interestingly this is a race dominated by those on pace. However the flipside to that is a Northerly wind expected which will help horses with cover and swoopers who get cover during the race.

Imperatriz & Cylinder provide the early pace.

Magic Time, The Astrologist, Master Fay, Skew Wiff, Benedetta, Sghirripa forward of midfield.

Rey Magnerio, Ruthless Dame, Bella Nipotina back of midfield.

Its Our Time, Espiona and Buenos Noches out the back.

KEY RUNNERS

1. Imperatriz – 9 wins and 1 second from past 10 starts. Solid win in The Lightning and will improve into this. The one to beat.

2. Bella Nipotina – Failed in this race last year, but has good straight track G1 placings on her resume. Would want rain to be a genuine danger.

3. Buenos Noches – Has an excellent straight track record, including 2nds by a nose to Giga Kick and by 0.5L to Imperatriz. Has plenty of historical negatives to overcome in this race. 4yos have only won once the past 12 years, and entires haven’t had a winner yet. Comes from a last start Sydney run at G2 level. Blinkers on a negative for the trainer and maps to get a long way back in a slowly run race.

6. Magic Time – Talented mare who won the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes last start over 1400m. Difficult to win his race first up.

12. Sghirippa – Bolted in to win the G3 Standish this track/ trip 2 starts back, then only beaten 2L in the Oakleigh Plate.

14 . Cylinder – Multiple G2 winner as a 2yo and 3yo and G1 placed as a 2yo and 3yo. Was solid in the Lightning first up. In the mix.

TOP CHANCES

1 – Imperatriz
2 – Bella Nipotina
14 – Cylinder
12 – Sghirippa
6 – Magic Time

BETTING STRATEGY

The Newmarket Handicap is one of the most prestigious horse races in Australia, held annually at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria. This race is a Group 1 handicap race for open class sprinters and is run over a distance of 1200 metres.

The race was first run in 1874, and since then, it has been an important fixture on the Australian racing calendar. The race was initially named after the town of Newmarket in England, where the famous Newmarket Handicap is also held. However, the Australian version was renamed the Newmarket Handicap in 1890 to avoid confusion with the English version.

Over the years, many famous horses have won the Newmarket Handicap. Some of the most notable include Black Caviar, who won the race in 2011 carrying 58 kilograms, the most weight ever carried to victory in the Newmarket Handicap. Other famous horses to have won the race include Redkirk Warrior, Sunline, Schillaci, and Shaftesbury Avenue.

Trainers and jockeys have also made their mark on the Newmarket Handicap. The late Bart Cummings is the most successful trainer in the history of the race, having won it eight times. Other successful trainers include Lee Freedman, who has won the race five times, and Gai Waterhouse, who has won it four times.

With the race attracting top-class horses, trainers, and jockeys, it is no surprise that it also attracts plenty of betting interest. Fans of horse racing who are looking to place a bet on the Newmarket Handicap have a range of options available to them, with Betfair being one of the best options.
