SPEED MAP

Above average speed engaged here with The Pendragon a likely leader from Run Harry Run.

Veight and Verdad map well to sit behind, with Southport Tycoon and Otago also drawn well.

The likes of Snow Patrol, Quintessa, Riff Rocket, Zipaway, Sunsets, Apuila, King Colorado, Hey Fat Cat & Mah Ali will all be jostling for midfield positions.

Vieste and Cap Ferrat out the back.

KEY RUNNERS AND COMMENTARY

1. Riff Rocket – VRC Derby winner in the Spring who put the writing on the wall with an impressive first up win in the CS Hayes Stakes. The one to beat.

2. Veight – Ran 2nd in the Caulfield Guineas last prep. Won first up then a good 4th in the CF Orr against the older horses. Maps well and in the mix here.

3. King Colorado – Stable of Stars colt who is owned by yours truly alongside predominantly Winning Edge Investments members. Won the $1M G1 JJ Atkins over a mile as a 2yo. Last prep was stuck 3 wide no cover in the G1 $1M Caulfield Guineas and ran a strong 4th. Has hit the line well for 2nd both runs this prep. Blinkers on first time here to try and find that length to claw back on Riff Rocket.

5. Zipaway – Had G1 form in WA. Won the G2 WA Guineas over a mile then 3rd beaten a head behind Dom To Shoot and Zaaki. Hit the line well first up over 1400m. The mile over the big track will suit him.

6. Cap Ferrat – Ran good closing late sectionals in the CS Hayes Stakes. Will be hitting the line hard again late here.

7. The Pendragon – NZ colt in good form who has done little wrong. Won 3 in a row including a G2 over 1400m leading all the way, then 2nd in the Karaka Millions beaten by Orchestral who looks special. Well in the mix.

15. Quintessa – Kiwi filly from the Te Akau stable who won a G1 mile for the 3yos at Trentham then 4th against the older horses at G1 level over 1400m. Can measure up.

DEAN EVANS’ SUMMARY

Riff Rocket was very impressive in the CS Hayes Stakes and is the clear one to beat. Has been heavily backed however and is now very short so betting around him.

King Colorado ran a strong 2nd to Riff Rocket last start and is already a G1 mile winner as a 2yo.

The Pendragon and Quintessa are kiwi raiders who can certainly measure up.

Veight has a solid ratings profile and maps well.

Zipaway the knockout with strong WA formlines and Cap Ferrat at odds to place for multiples/exotics.

DEAN EVANS’ SELECTIONS

1. Riff Rocket
3. King Colorado
7. The Pendragon
15. Quintessa
2. Veight
