There is not a particularly strong profile for this race. Given this years field of runners, the most likely outcome is a moderate early race pace, but we shall cover all pace scenarios in desc ending order, for our top 5 most favoured runners (from slow to fast early pace). Imposing Lass gets to go forward and sit just behind the pace, which should be set by All In The Reflexes. All In The Reflexes has not shown the ability to run a good last 600 even off a slow pace, so if this pace scenario develops Imposing Lass should be the hardest to run past (All In The Reflexes could just ‘c ling’ on, only if the early pac e was extremely slow). Required Benchmark: –1.0 To 600m, – 5.0 Overall. Suitable Lead Up Race: 1400m to 1600m, 2 to 6 Runs Back and 7 to 14 days ago. Winner generally comes from Top 4 in the market. Most Favoured (in order): #3 Imposing Lass; #2 Khutulun; #8 Asinara; #6 Hetty Heights and #10 All In The Reflexes.
Feature Race Comments
2015: Sunday Too Far ($61) eventually crossed to lead at a pace which was 2 lengths slower than expected to the 600m marker, for the class of race. Peace Force sat outside the lead and Mamwaazel dropped in for the trial behind the leaders (after being caught 3 wide). On straightening Mamwaazel moved to the centre of the track under hard riding and eventually wore down Peace Force close to the finish line.
2014: An open race with a $5.50 favourite. Madam Nash ($8) went straight to the front with Cathay Lady ($18) pestering it all the way to the 600m marker. They set a pace approx four lengths faster than expected for the class. They were both under pressure from the turn and Myamira ran on from last (also hooking out to be the widest runner) claiming the prize.
2013: Cathay Lady took them to the 600m mark at a pace approx 5 lengths quicker than expected for the class of race, while the race Fav in Pipette ($3.80) settled in fourth just behind the pace. Cathay Lady did some work to find the lead and was under the whip and headed at the 100m mark by Babel; fought back strongly to regain the lead and win. Race not run in 2012 due to a change in schedule for 2012–13 racing season. The race prior to 2012 was run in October, 2011. The Gosford Racing Club moved the race to January, while also increasing the prizemoney.
2012: Viva Las ($17) and Catch A Thief ($20) set the pace with Skyerush just worse than midfield. Quidnuc was slowly away and as a result settled at the tail of the field. The three horses which filled the placings were essentially equal favourites, in the small field of eight runners.
