Posted: October 19, 2016

Every Wednesday on The Hub, professional punters from across the country will be nominating their LAY of the week.

Meet the team of pro punters below.

Racing Watch – www.racingwatch.com.au

John Walter – @J_Walter23

John has worked in racing going on 16 years. Staring out as a Bookmakers Clerk in the Sydney ring and providing form to a select group of clients. He spent time working with leading Sydney trainers and breeders in an effort to expand his knowledge of the side of the business he knew little about.

When working on track he was approached and went to work for the highly regarded Humbleton Pty Ltd – where his knowledge base for video watching and form analysis was greatly broadened through their intensive training program. Upon leaving Humbleton he jumped the fence going to work privately for a prominent bookmaker – before eventually settling in risk management for a major corporate.

Working in a number of roles throughout the industry has allowed John to form an understanding not just of form study, but what goes into training and more importantly peaking of horses. All of which assists in trying to maintain an edge over the market.

For the past 5 years he has been concentrating on providing information on thoroughbred racing to Owners, Trainers and Punters alike through his company Racingwatch.com.au. He has also recently entered the realms of Jockey Management – taking on Sydney rider Joshua Parr.

Ralph Horowitz – racetrackralphy.com.au

Racetrack Ralphy – @rtralphy

After two decades in the AFL and Horse Racing media through The Footy Show, Sunday Footy Show, Triple M, 3AW, ABC, SEN and RSN, “Racetrack” Ralphy Horowitz has now transitioned into full time analysis of Victorian Racing through his racetrackralphy.com.au and the “Racetrack Ralphy” App service which he launched in 2012.

In the spring of that year he was was paired with Vince Accardi as RSN launched their digital channel “Carnival” covering Melbourne and Sydney racing every Saturday afternoon, and it became a life-changer for him.

“I’d seen racing from most angles in the previous 30 years having been a strapper at Caulfield as a young fella in the 80’s, media work and being a racing manager for a private owner that gave me privileged insights into both Bart Cummings and Lee Freedman, but working with Vince Accardi taught me how much I didn’t know! I now deeply study Victorian racing through the prism of his Daily Sectionals data, and then produce analysis for purchase.

My starting point is in Horse Racing “the eyes lie” so data explains what did happen, and thoroughly documenting each meeting is vital.

Then when I look forward to try to find a winner it becomes predictive analysis, and my mindset for customers is to sell the “why” (reasons) of where I believe there’s punting opportunities, or if it’s the case, explain why I believe there’s a lack of a punting opportunity in Victorian races, concentrating mainly on city meetings.”
