DON PIERRE broke the track record at Cranbourne in 1.53.7 when leading in its first Aussie start, then was awful here from a horror draw. Shook that off with an easy enough win at Cranbourne. Looks to have a high cruising speed – if he can hold off the early challenge from next door, should be hard to beat. IF THE MOOD SUITS is a nice sit sprinter who is a big e/w chance here – following the leader or three pegs. Got close here from behind the leader five starts ago, a good enough second at Echuca last time too when in the unsuited death seat. HE CAN FLY will have an early dip, think its game over if doesn’t cross. OUR JIMMIE is going well, but the draw hurts. LOLA JONES is an ex-Kiwi , now in NSW with Kevin Pizzuto, has been OK at Penrith.

A race I’m keen to play, VINNY CHASE has more issues than his namesake on TV, but at its best is very good. A massive driver change here with Todd McCarthy on for Troy McDonald. Has very good gate speed, can lead and not many better in Australia on a leader than Todd. It can improve big time here. KEAYANG KALLISTO is the beneficiary, drawing to be on its back. Was in that spot last time at Terang when ran on late for a comfortable victory. Jason Lee will have her coiled up and ready to go bang up the sprint lane. KEEP ON ROCKING is no doubt the danger to those two, has won 12/45 and five from last nine, the latest an easy victory at Ballarat when gifted the lead. Was $1.50 favourite at Ballarat prior to that when third to Miley Rose. MAR NIEN was good winning at Echuca last time off a hot speed and BROADWAY PLAYBOY was an OK third first up in the state. Pretty keen to back six and one though here.

I’m a fan of this former Tasmanian who hasn’t had the best of luck lately. Won at Shepparton in a decent enough field when leading before going out for a spell. Resumed when, lets be honest, they didn’t really try to hard for fourth at Geelong, then led and withstood a big early challenge when fourth to Carl Mattgregor, then again, did it very tough early for third to NICKYS IDOL. Drawn to lead here, and get a much softer time of it. OUR CELEBRITY also did it tough when second to NICKYS IDOL who had the cold hard sit on them. She is going well and also a chance in an even race as is OUR LADY MADONNA who was massive in defeat last time when second to GOZO BEACH. That horse is a place chance as is the two and ten.

Not a race I’m a huge fan of, MY TRIBECA is the best horse, that is not a huge statement, but hasn’t won for seven starts now. Led and gave it away when breaking in a winnable position two starts ago, then had excuses last time when third to Clover Mac. SHOULD win, but do you want to take near enough to flip of the coin odds to find out? TIAVONS DREAM is consistent, ANY OLD WAY can place but doesn’t win out of turn, SUN OF SONOKO doesn’t map well and OUR TWENTYTEN was fourth to Clover Mac last time, always a chance.

Hoping EGODAN puts a COT in here – probably wont, but that may not matter either. I think he can cross early and then hand up to the flying MAJORDAN who can cross them all from out wide. Majordan is probably Victoria’s most improved horse, has won nine from past 15 and is getting better rach time. Led and beat a smart field in Maximan and co beofe a very good sixth to Lenny last week. If Egodan can get to the pegs first, will be finishing off hard late. Flew home to win a decent enough race at Menangle last week, main danger. MY KIWI MATE may have been unlucky not to get a start in the VIC Cup, just hasn’t been able to win one lately though in top class which was probably the reason why. All of the backmarkers can win with the right run.

The mile is the key here, MAORISFAVOURITESUN can lead as it did winning at Menangle recently. This is up in grade but Toddy is on, and the horse went well last time. fifth in this grade in September here when $7.70. MAORI TIME may stick to its back, has won 22/58 now including three from last four, usually a better leader, Gav will have to make a decision early. GLENFERRIE TYPHOON was our champion trotter last season winning the Great Sothern Star, pretty good form for a race like this but is first up. SPARKLING SUCCESS is going well and AINTHATRIGHTMACCA continues to improve.

One of Victoria’s showpiece events is the Victoria Cup, and it looks a top field again, but a great race? Maybe not, but the beneficiary is LENNYTHESHARK who gets the pole. Has done it all, needs no introductions, should be leading and winning. MY FIELD MARSHALL will be three pegs, and running up the sprint lane late, which is the place to be in these Group 1’s. Looks a very good place bet. YAYAS HOT SPOT gets the spot behind the leader but was only plain in the run to the line last week. AMERETTO is arguably Australia’s best mare, but drawn next door to Lenny is the hardest place to try and cross. TIGER TARA comes into this fresh, a hard task but has been one of Australia’s best recently. Other top horses are place hopes but hard to see them beating the champ.

Two real inform horses clash here with REAL SOCIAL and MOONROCK. REAL SOCIAL came from off the speed last week when a huge winner in 1.53.1. Has won six from its last eight – cant doo too much more than that. MOONROCK has won three from its last five – second to San Carlo (who is contesting the Vic Cup) was very good after a win at Shepparton. Leaning slightly towards the 10, due to the 8’s bad draw. DYNAMIC BROMAC had its chance on the back of Real Social last time, and ran second. Again, a place chance with a trail. The front line don’t look to be good enough with place chances to 1,2 and 6.

For win betters, a bit of a non-event with LET IT RIDE being unbackable odds. Easy winner beating Nitro Nikky who is scr here. Has won 5/8 , four of those in NZ and raced against the very best over there. Will be winning. The challenge is how to make money on this race with place chances to HEAVENLY TOOTH, TWOFORSIXTY, OUR SHANGHAI NOON and CARL MATTGREGOR who I am going to back the place, awesome winning here two starts ago then fourth to Let It Ride last time. The only way it WON’T place in my opinion is if it tries to win! (meaning, if he tries to take the favourite on).

Claimers are always hard and no exception here. BEACH BOY ADIOS has pretty much been the “king of the claimers” recently and goes on top again. Tough win at Ballarat last time, hard to beat again. SAPPHIRE SWAYZE is the main danger and possible leader. CROCKETS CULLEN and GOTTA GO HENRY are both good chances as both are back from open grade.
