Ballarat Markets R1 – 8

R1 Flying Horse Bistro Trotters Handicap | 2200m 6:25pm

Tough race to start the night. Mister Oz is not going well at the moment, but does like to get out in the lead and run along. Speedy Rambo had very consistent form before a last start failure and should settle handy to the speed. Stoned Again is first up but has had three recent trials to prepare and might offer the best value. Eureka Encounter is going as well as anything here but wins very rarely and is risky from the stand.

Race Confidence: Low

This field has had a total of 197 starts for two wins only. Gunbalunya has the speed to lead here and over the sprint trip in this field will be right in the finish. Metro Princess galloped at the start when a short priced fav recently and may have to work in the run but is competitive. Tiza Nightmare’s runs before a short break were as good as anything here, and will receive a cosy inside trip but will need some luck late with no sprint lane. Looks the big value in the race

R3 Wiltronics Trot | 2200m | 7:31pm

The speed is likely to come from Be Good Zac, who is a fast beginner, but better suited to the mile. Spud ran a nice race on Sunday for second behind a horse who is significantly superior to his opposition here. Ghent is the clear danger, he gradually improved last season and is well up to a race like this. Expect the winner to come from that pair.

Race Confidence: High

R4 Eastwood Vets Trot | 2200m | 8:00pm

Another thin race on form, with these runners having had a total of 145 runs last season for two wins. Prettygirl Lassie is a very risky trotter, and has not won for over three years, but recent runs have been the best for some time and if she gets around safe this is her chance to win again. Truscott Sun is racing fairly but her best form is when leading. Miss Cosmos and Hard Yakka are limited but it is likely one of these will find the lead and that gives them a hope.

Race Confidence: Low

Runner Name Rating
9. Prettygirl Lassie $2.80

R5 Ballarat Volkswagen Pace | 2200m | 8:30pm

Loads of early speed here with Illawong Libby, Gnotuk and If The Mood Suits all being fast out. The presence of Sandoval makes this race tougher to assess. First-up for Kerryn Manning from NZ without a trial. Yackandandah is clearly the best horse outside of him and is best suited at this sort of trip. Expect the winner to come from that pair.

Race Confidence: Low

Christmas Jolt galloped last start in the run and cost itself the race at Melton, but will lead with no pressure here and looks a moral. Time Keepa Lombo is the other four-year-old and looks the clear second pick.

Bettor Downunder returns from a long break but is a top flight mare and should be too good. The interest will be whether Lance elects to hand up with Iam Aw Sam, who is outclassed by Bettor Downunder but is normally driven very aggressively. Art I Special and Mach Doro look likely to run on into the placings.

Race Confidence: High

R8 Ballarat Springfest Pace | 1710m | 10:00pm

Extremely difficult race to finish. Very little gate speed off the front row and Noble Vision can probably hold the lead if they wish to. Johnny Redcoat has a horror draw but is probably going better than anything here. All Honour has not won for nearly three years but has been racing consistently and not too far away. Regal Lager is first up for Andy Gath from South Australia, the recent trial was only average but is well graded.

Race Confidence: Low
