Ohoka Punter will look to take up its customary leading role with Im Corzin Terror getting the cushy run on its back. Kotare Roland should be able to push up to three pegs from there. Messini is likely to go forward to the chair early before Yankee Rockstar comes searching for the death seat.
1. Im Corzin Terror: Gets the gun run from the draw here. This horse is absolutely flying at the moment. Sat in the chair in the Terang Cup but the effort told when fourth as $1.90 favourite. Prior to that ran second in the Bendigo Cup behind Lennytheshark after an eighth in the Hunter Cup and a 12th in the Ballarat Cup, beginning badly in the latter two from standing starts. Showed he was up to winning a cup at Hamilton when did it easily albeit in easier class. Definitely a chance here up the sprint lane.
2. Ohoka Punter: Not far off the “real” top class, he ran second to Smolda in the Hunter Cup after winning the Pure Steel at Melton and the Shepparton Cup. Has won 15/23 from the Mobile and a win and a second over the distance. Absolutely airborne and should lead here. Anything that beats it will probably win.
6. Messini: A great little trier who puts his head down and always gives maximum effort. Chris Alford is on board, this horse is going better than its 640 formline suggests. A sixth finish in the Shepparton Cup behind Ohoka Punter (as $3.50 favourite) then went to the Victoria Cup at Melton where he was a terrific fourth only beaten 7.5m behind Lennytheshark. Couldn’t handle the death seat in the Hunter Cup when a fading 10th behind Smolda. Back to the mobile here and a slightly easier class with a track record of 1/1 and a distance record of three wins and a duo of seconds from six starts means he is certainly one to watch here.
10. Yankee Rockstar: Emerging or already there? Rounded up a quality field at Melton off the back row last time in 1.55.2 over the 2240m. That was following a terrific fourth in the Hunter Cup after winning a high quality M1-M3 at Melton (beating Franklin Cup winner Itz Bettor To Win). Ran third in the Shepparton Cup behind Ohoka Punter and third in the Ballarat Mile. A 1/1 record at the track, 1/1 at the distance and 19/26 at the mobile. He will have to be at his best from outside the second row but this is one horse on the up.
