Canterbury – Wednesday January 13
Track: Good 3
Race 2: 1250m 3YO HCP – 14:30
A good betting race presents itself in the second at Canterbury today. A number of vital scratching’s have taken some of the gloss off this race but we still have 11 runners to work with.
Canterbury has been racing really well and I see no reason for that not to continue today. There’s enough natural pace here and the best horse will get its chance with the right navigation.
The Trial Horses
Sugar Bay Leonard: This was a horse that we were keen on for his debut run and he seemed to be run out into the middle of the track to finish a respectable third. He should derive plenty of benefit from the run.
Grande Castagno: Lee Curtis’ Grande Castagno is first up from a 147 day break and has been given two trials in the lead up to this. His form prior looks good enough to be competitive here and Glyn Schofield will drive him to the front with the blinkers on.
King Darci: This horse has been running well at 1000m, which could be way short of his best. He presents third up today, gets the blinkers on and has a fitness advantage that shouldn’t be forgotten about.
Two runners who I would have been considering (Southern Legend and Yattarna) have been scratched this morning but this allows us to narrow down our betting plays.
