Canterbury Saturday January 9
Track: Heavy 8
Race 1: 1200m 2YO HCP
A ‘select’ field of 6 line up in the first at Canterbury and I’m expecting a quality horse to emerge the winner of this race.
The wettest start to a year ‘on record’ in Sydney but we are racing at Canterbury, the best drying track in NSW. The wet weather will eliminate any leaders bias and make for a fair surface.
Detective: Scratched at the barriers as the short priced favourite, this colt resumes now 98 days between runs. The second to Capitalist on debut has him at the top of the market here but his most recent trial was satisfactory but no more.
Jeanneau: Bounced back from a plain performance to record a strong win at Randwick last start. She stays at the same distance and in my opinion should be the favoruite over Detective based on that.
Dissolute: I couldn’t have been much more impressed by the work of Dissolute at the Randwick trials. He put himself on speed like a true professional and ended up getting the best of Niccolance who is a good chance to run a place in the Magic Millions. John O’Shea may have a handy one.
Strong market support on the exchange for Godolphin’s debut runner here (Dissolute) would give me even more confidence to up our stake here.
