Cambridge, Saturday 4th May 2016: The Harness Pro – Harness Jewels Day

Posted: June 4, 2016 at 9:44 am

Track Circumference – 1000m

Track Surface – All Weather

Direction – Anticlockwise

Race 1 – 4yo Diamond Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Lancewood Lizzie, Adore Me, Elusive Chick, Pembrook’s Delight and Lancome.

DEMOCRAT PARTY (5) is coming off a good third to My Kiwi Mate last start at Alexandra Park which looks to be a better class race than this. Can lead all the way. ROCKER BAND (9) couldn’t handle the pace in the NZ Breeders Stakes when 12th to Luisanabelle Midfrew. Strong form prior to that. MISS DAISY (1) gets a gun run from the draw but will need to lift a touch. Uandmebabe (4) and Lusty Mac (2) look the best of the rest.

Race 2 – 2yo Ruby Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Missandei, Monbet, One Over Da Moon, Royal Aspirations and Flying Isa.

Usually the winner of this goes onto big things and we can expect the same again from ENGHIEN (3) here. Won the Group 2 Sires Stakes last time from an awkward draw when too good for HABIBI INTA (4). Looks super smart and only a mistake will cost it victory here. Habibi Inta was favourite in that race when it led but no match. CUSTODIAN (5) ran 2nd when 3rd favourite in the same race – the 3 look like fighting out the trifecta again.

Race 3 – 2yo Diamond Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Dream About Me, Supersonic Miss, Venus Serena, Onlyforyou and Cowgirls N Indians.

Mark Purdon looks to have a mortgage here on this race with the stablemates SPANISH ARMADA (10) and PARTYON (4). Partyon has had only one start for a great victory where she circled the field to win running away. This is harder but she’s up to it. Spanish Armada has been the benchmark 2yo filly so far in NZ having won 6 from her 7 starts – the last three being in races worth over $100k in prizemoney. Last start looked to be gassed at the end when won the Sales Final after winning the Sires Stakes (G1) prior to that. DELIGHTFUL MEMPHIS (7) has been beaten by that horse at its last 4 starts and looks unders to break the curse.

Race 4 – 4yo Ruby Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: King Denny, Sheemon, Cyclone U Bolt, Charlemagne and Vulcan.

MONBET (8) will go around at prohibitive odds here and deservedly so. The winner of 19 of 30 and its last four in a row here in NZ – he won the Rowe Cup (Group 1) last start after another G1 win in the Anzac Cup. Wins for fun here. SUNNY RUBY (2) is flying and looks the obvious second pick after winning its last 2 (dodging Monbet in the process).

Race 5 – 3yo Diamond Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: The Orange Agent, Venus Serena, Adore Me, O Baby and Carabella

Mark Purdon again has a mortgage on this race with the 3 stablemates in PICCADILLY PRINCESS (2), GOLDEN GODDESS (3) and DREAM ABOUT ME (9). I think the latter is the best horse but is has a horror draw so it’s a risk today. The three of them have contested the same races lately, the NZ Oaks and the Fillies Series 38 Final (both Group 1’s) with Dream About Me winning both, Golden Goddess running 2nd twice and Piccadilly Princess running 3rd and 4th. The draw is in the favour of PP today which can get to the fence first. Should be a great race.

Race 6 –  2yo Emerald Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Lazarus, Beaudiene Boaz, Sky Major, Five Card Draw and Fly Like An Eagle

Wow – what an honour roll, it takes a good horse to win this event and surprise, surprise Mark Purdon will probably be lining up for the winner’s cheque again with the stablemates PACING MAJOR (9) and MORE THE BETTER (12) set to dominate. MTB has been too good at the last two outings winning the Sires Stakes Final and the Yearling Sales at its last two starts. PM has a shocking inside 2nd row draw here which could prove its downfall. Hard to see anything beating them.

Race 7 – 3yo Ruby Trot – Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Sunny Ruby, King Denny, Prime Power, Cyclone U Bolt and Paramount Geegee

MARCOOLA (5) will be going around a dominant favourite and deserves it. 8 wins from 12 starts and its last 7 in a row – how will the beat it? Won the Northern Trotting Derby last start after a good win in the Trotters Champs (G2). Will have to gallop for it to lose. MISSANDEI (1) gets the gun run and is a huge place chance. Others for the exotics are DONEGAL BETTORGRETCH (6) and WILMA’S MATE (13) who is talented but risky.

Race 8 – 4yo Emerald – Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Sky Major, Franco Nelson, Christen Me, Terror To Love and Franco Emirate.

Fantastic Honour Roll means you have to be a champion or a really good horse to win this. FIELD MARSHALL (1) is a really good horse and is airborne at present having won his last six in a row in races which included the Messenger (G1) and Taylor Mile (G1). Hard to see him getting beat and anything above $1.50 is probably good odds. TITAN BANNER (8) comes from the All Star Stable and did conquer Christen Men last time (albeit with 20m hcp headstart). No doubt this horse is flying but looks under the odds from the draw. MY KIWI MATE (5) has been on both sides of the Tasman and is going well and a huge place chance.

Betting Strategy

Race 9 – 3yo Emerald – Mobile 1609m

Past 5 winners: Have Faith In Me, Sky Major, Border Control, Smolda and Gold Ace

Again, if the winner of this race today goes on to do what the past five winners have done the owners will be happy. HEAVEN ROCKS (5) is only a C3 but again Purdon puts on the polish. 4 wins from 6 starts – this gelding is rapidly going through the grades. Hasn’t won anything special YET although a Group 2 victory in the Southern Supremacy Stakes Final at its 4th start was pretty handy. CHASE THE DREAM (7) has just returned from WA where he was unsuccessful in a Derby campaign however prior to that had strong NZ form. CLASSIE BRIGADE (6) is a place chance as is MAJOR BEN (4) and SHANDALE (9). Probably the toughest race of the day.
