Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.
What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?
A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

OVER 88.5 – “Wise Hero is a genuine talent, he can win despite a query being third up back to 1000m. Gallant Harmony had every favour on a leader bias track at Ballarat last time, I’m keen to take him on, siding with Exclusive Lass and Bob Of The Head. Tango Rock looks well placed down in the weights first up off a gelding. Outside him it looks a complete raffle and a good race for ‘Overs’ bettors or traders. Keen on runners hard in the market in the fourth race over 1400m. Gratwick and the third starter Snitzson look hard to beat in race five. Sarrasin has plenty of hype surrounding him and I’m keen to lay Pilote D’Essai in the Cup. Lucky Liberty has claims in the Vobis Gold bullion but at $5 or less I want to lay him. Horses hard in the market look to have a strangle hold on the last, my numbers 9 5 14.”
