BSP Index

Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.

What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?

A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

UNDER 103.5 – “This card at Flemington looks to be one of the more competitive I’ve seen recently, but even so, it’s hard to justify the Overs today. There are three ‘blowout’ chances throughout the day such as Larrikin in Race 3 that I will be savering. Excluding an unexpected blowout in Race 1 (it may be worth considering holding off betting until after this race), I’m expecting the BSP to finish close to 97.”

UNDER 103.5 – “The Maribyrnong Trial Stakes is a mystery. Watch for a market push or anything is possible. In the Poseidon Stakes Inside Agent looks perfectly placed out to 1400m. Expect Highlad to announce himself as a serious Derby contender in the UCI Stakes and Faatinah profiles as the winner of the Gilgai stakes despite rising 4kgs under Weight-For-Age conditions. He did find the right part of the track in the Bobbie Lewis but he’s got more upside then most of these. The Lloyd Williams pair look well weighted in the Bart Cummings, their biggest dangers appear to be Almoonqith & Excess Knowledge who can be big improvers from a high rating Naturalism. Despite wide draw the best chances in the Edward Manifold appear to be numbers 1,2,3 & 4. With the rise to 1600m I’m finding hard to pinpoint a standout. I’m prepared to risk Hartnell at the price and believe there’s a handful of legitimate winning chances. How will Jameka race after hitting such a high figure last time? She could be in the thick of things or race very flat. The Blazer Stakes can throw up an upset result and the last race also looks difficult to assess with confidence.”

UNDER 103.5  – “For the overs to get up race results will needs throw two or more $20+ winners. I’m not sure if there’s many races on the card the can produce these big results. Being with the unders I see Races 3, 4, 5 & 9 as the skinny races on the card.  The Turnbull lacks pace but a horse like Sofia Rosa could be the blowout required to get the unders beat, but it is 50/1 for a reason. For mine the unders will start fav and shorten through the day.”

UNDER 103.5 – “Race 1 unraced 2yos, could provide any result.race 2 even race plenty of chances. Race 3 Favourites look to be hard to beat. Race 4, Faatinah looks to get an easy lead again, and should be hard to beat. Race 5, If Alamndin repeats last week should be winning again. Hard to see an upset result in Turnbull.  Last 2 races are wide open with a chance of a blowout.”
