Betfair punters are able to diversify their betting with the Betfair Starting Price Index. Instead of simply Backing & Laying runners in a race, traders can Back & Lay on the BSP Index Market allowing them to take a position on the aggregate BSP value of all winners.
What is a ‘Betfair Starting Price Index’?
A BSP Index is the aggregate value of the BSP (Betfair Starting Price) of all winners over a pre-determined number of races. For example, the BSP Index at a 9 Race Card at Flemington would be the combined number of all 9 BSP winner prices after the end of the last race.

UNDER 107.5 – “Since the introduction of BSP, this week’s line at Flemington is one of the hardest to select. Just like last week at Moonee Valley, there are several key value chances throughout the card. What’s different this week is that I’m confident in at least five races there will be an average BSP winning price of $7 or less, with some well fancied favourites expected to Salute. Even if there is one large blowout throughout the day, I’m expecting the Under to sneak in'”

UNDER 107.5 – “Race 1 looks a raffle so not sure what to expect. Happy to work around Missrock, My Country & Kentucky Miss in the second. Tessera looks well placed at listed level with the step up to 1400m. In The Sofitel horses hard in the market won’t be beaten. Three horses appeal in the Danehill Stakes being Archives, Samara Dancer and the kiwi Saracino. The Bobby Lewis usually favours horses well down in the weights and any of Kinglike, Santa Ana Lane and Faatinah fit the profile as possible winners. Black Heart Bart could hold the key to the index. If he’s beaten the most likely blowout result would be He Or She provided the track isn’t too rain affected. The Let’s Elope opens right up beyond Badawiya and Don’t Doubt Mumma & in the last race I expect Pilote D’Essai to drift heavily but still win.”

UNDER 107.5 – “The BSP is a great trading product. The swings can be big and timing is the key. With the line at 107.5 it seems very close to the mark. I think Pilot D’Essai is suited in the last race so if betting is still running then, unders will prevail. Race 1 could throw up a blowout as could Race 8 the Group Two mares race. The middle section of the program are even races where results may be low double figure BSP winners. The key to the day again is Black Heart Bart on a drying track. I hope I’m wrong but the unders might scrape in Sat.”

OVER 107.5 – “In Race 1 the favourites should fight it out. Race two and three appear wide open with plenty of chances for an upset. Race 4 I have favourites Tashbeeh and Ulmann clear on top. Race 5 The Danehill I’m happy to oppose the favourites and Race 6 is another wide open race. Black Heart Bart gets the perfect race set up. In Race 8 I’m keen to oppose the short priced mares and if race 9 Pilote D’Essai looks very hard to beat.”
